Is a person a vegetarian if.....?!

Question: Is a person a vegetarian if!.!.!.!.!.!?
can a person call themselves a vegetarian if they consume:
-cheeses that have rennet
-yogurts that have gelatin
-products that contain egg!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
These issues are kind of iffy!. Lots of vegetarians don't do it for the animals and don't mind overlooking tiny amounts of animal products, such as the gelatin in yogurt!. Trust me, there is NOT a lot in there!. It's just a speck, and that's how a lot of vegetarians don't mind!.

As for eggs, all vegetarians are okayed to eat eggs because they are animal by-products, but not meat!. Vegetarians, as you know, just don't eat meat!. The eggs are always unfertilized and, theoretically, the production of eggs does not directly hurt chickens!. Vegetarians are also okayed to eat cheese, and lots of cheeses have rennet in them!. As I mentioned, lots of vegetarians cut out meat for reasons other than animals, so for some people, this is a sensitive issue, for others, it isn't!.

What you've pointed out are the gray areas that most vegetarians either turn a blind eye to or are ignorant of!. I don't think it'd be fair to call all of the people who eat cheese and yogurt non-vegetarian because, technically, it's not flesh, and vegetarians are more concerned with hunks of meat, not flecks of by-product!. It's a personal choice, as we all know, and it's up to the person how they want to do it!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Well they aren't a textbook vegetarian if they eat any rennet or gelatin!. But as far as I'm concerned they are a not-so-strict vegetarian because they are really close!. Products with egg are still vegetarian if the egg has not been fertilized!.

Wow a lot of the other posters think that rennet (from a cow's stomach) and gelatin (from bones and connective tissues) are vegetarian but they are not!. Vegetarians abstain from meat AND slaughter by-products!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

There are several types of vegetarian!.!.!.

Pescatarian - Eat no meat with the exception of fish!.

Flexitarian/Semi-vegetarian - Most of the time are on a vegitarian diet but sometimes (rarely) eat meat!.

Lacto-vegetarian - does not eat eggs, but does eat dairy products!.

Ovo-vegetarian - do not eat meat including dairy products but will eat eggs!.

Vegan - Vegans do not eat meat of any kind and also do not eat eggs, dairy products, or processed foods containing these or other animal-derived ingredients such as gelatin!. Many vegans also refrain from eating foods that are made using animal products that may not contain animal products in the finished process, such as sugar and some wines!. There is some debate as to whether certain foods, such as honey, fit into a vegan diet!.

Raw Vegan - eats unprocessed vegan foods that have not been heated above 115 degrees Fahrenheit (46 degrees Celsius)!. “Raw foodists” believe that foods cooked above this temperature have lost a significant amount of their nutritional value and are harmful to the body!.

Macrobiotic - The macrobiotic diet, revered by some for its healthy and healing qualities, includes unprocessed vegan foods, such as whole grains, fruits and vegetables, and allows the occasional consumption of fish!. Sugar and refined oils are avoided!. Perhaps the most unique qualifier of the macrobiotic diet is its emphasis on the consumption of Asian vegetables, such as daikon, and sea vegetables, such as seaweed!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

1= no if the rennet is animal derived
2= no
3= yes!. Vegetarians eat eggs, usually free range!. Vegans don't!.

Don't listen to anyone who tells you there is such thing as a semi-vegetarian or fish eating vegetarian!. This is completely nonsensical!.
Vegetarians avoid any ingredient derived from a dead animal!. Vegans avoid all ingredients that are derived from any animal, alive or dead!. Hope this clears things up for you!Www@FoodAQ@Com

I'm vegan and know what I'm talking about!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

no you can really do whatever you want!.

I am a vegetarian - but i eat sea food and eggs and yogurt and milk!.
