Balanced pescetarian diet for a 16 year old?!

Question: Balanced pescetarian diet for a 16 year old?
I'm 16 and would like to stop eating meat. My mom is more likely to let me if I take it slow, so I'm thinking about trying a pescetarian diet instead, as a sort of first step.
What is the best way to a balanced diet at my age, without meat?

Eat loads of fresh fruits and vegies, and have a fish meal about twice per week. You can vary your vegetarian meals using tofu, tempeh and meat analogues but avoid eating too many processed foods. If your mum wants you to eat more fish then that's up to you, but I think what you're doing is a good compromise and as really at your age your parents can't tell you what you can and can't eat.

I also recommend joining a message board where you can connect with other young vegos. Try veggieboards.com, its the biggest in the world. You might find some members there can be a bit judgemental if you are still eating fish, but don't let it get to you. Just stick to your plan and go totally meat free when you can.

Good luck.

This is awesome, because when I was 16 I went pescetarian as well! It's been almost a year and I'm proud to be still at it. I've decided to be a pescetarian until I move our of the house instead of a vegetarian because it makes cooking meals a lot easier for my dad.

Anyways, you should make sure you eat lots of fresh foods. Eat lots of vegetables and fruits. There are several unhealthy vegetarians out there that live off of processed foods. I'm probably guilty of having too much processed foods myself. Make sure you eat a lot of nuts and beans, especially right after stopping eating meat.

Also, just as a tip, make sure you check the ingredients in foods before you eat them. You'd be surprised the kind of stuff they sneak meat into, such as marshmellows.

do what i did. i just said no, i am never eating meat again. it worked. when my parents gave me meat the next day, i didnt eat it. it works like a charm...
