Is there any vegetarian Chinese food?!

Question: Is there any vegetarian Chinese food?
Is oyster sauce vegetarian?

Is chicken broth used to make the broccoli with garlic sauce?

Answers:

If you are asking about food in normal Chinese restaurant, don't think they will bother to use vegetarian oyster sauce. Best if you could find Chinese Vegetarian restaurant instead.
And usually their ready broth is either made of pork ribs / pork / chicken instead of vegetable so most likely broccoli with garlic sauce will not be vegetarian too.
If you don't mind requesting, you can ask them to cook you vegetarian food like boiled vegetable with just sesame oil / soy sauce, otherwise check with them what would be suitable. I think steamed vegetable dumplings and steam plain tofu should be fine.

Hi,
The only one I know of that's 100% vegetarian is "Hoi Sin" sauce which fermented black bean sauce.
If you eat out, most oyster sauces do contain the liquid of oyster in many forms.
It's best to cook you own. When shopping for Asian condiments read ingredients carefully.
Here's a good recipe you may want to try:
Ingredients:
* 2 cups vegetable broth
* 2 cloves garlic, minced
* 1/4 cup soy sauce
* 1 tsp ginger
* 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes
* 1/4 cup sugar
* 2 bunches of broccoli, chopped
* 2 tbsp olive oil
* 1 1/2 tbsp cornstarch
* cooked rice
Preparation:
Bring the vegetable broth to a boil. Add the garlic, soy sauce, ginger, red pepper and sugar, stirring to combine well.
In a large skillet, sautee the broccoli in olive oil until broccoli is just barely tender. Add the vegetable broth mixture to the broccoli. Add the cornstarch, stirring well to avoid any clumps.
Allow to cook for 6 to 8 minutes, or until sauce thickens.
Easy recipe and great flavor.

Serve over rice or another whole grain, such as quinoa or millet.

Makes six servings.

A lot of Chinese food is vegetarian. But true Chinese food does not mix meat with vegetables. Your best bet, if you went to eat out, is to find a "china town" in your nearest large city. Their vegetarian restaurants will be completely vegetarian and they know how to do things with tofu that will have you checking after every bite that you aren't eating meat.

If you can't do that, your best bet is to make it at home. Unless you don't consider fish to be meat, chances are there aren't a lot of options at your typical Chinese restaurant.

You can make vegetarian oyster sauce at home. If you want to know if the food at a restaurant is vegetarian you will have to ask the people that work there.
