Why are artificial colorings not vegan?!

Question: Why are artificial colorings not vegan?
Answers:

They're idiots. Artificial colors do not occur in nature. They are synthesized chemicals. They have no animal or animal product derivative.

However, several NATURAL coloring additives are derived from animals. Examples of these include natural purple and Natural Red #40, because the cochineal bug is used to produce that color.

Guess you can't believe all those vegan bakers on t.v. after all (-;

The only coloring that I know of that is not vegan is camine (Crimson Lake, Cochineal, Natural Red #40, C.I. 75470, or E120): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carmine
