I have $20 to spend on groceries this week. Help me make a grocery list?!
Answers:
Cheap foods:
- Potatoes or yams
- Rice (plain rice in bag)
- Beans (dried are cheapest, but cans aren't too bad)
- Pasta (dried pasta noodles) and tomato sauce
- Cereal (if you drink cow's milk that is cheap too. Soy/rice/almond milk isn't as cheap, but it may be worth it to supply a weeks of breakfast)
- Bread and peanut butter (peanut butter isn't that cheap, but if you are willing to eat this for many meals, it WILL last along time, it's filling, and well-worth the money). Cheese (for grilled cheese) if you eat cheese is also an option.
- Bananas (the cheapest fruit around!)
- Carrots or frozen vegetables (frozen bulk veggies are usually cheaper than fresh ones).
- Chips or crackers that could go with the other foods (with the sandwiches or corn chips if you had rice and pinto beans etc).
Another great option for saving money is... coupons. Seriously. They can add up if you catch the right ones. If you don't have a newspaper, try online searches. You can also buy what is on sale or buy the off brands (which are cheaper).
Hope your shopping goes well!

Get your self some Egg plant cut off the skin and slice it not to thin but enough to fry it then get about 5 eggs crack it open into a bowl and put some milk in it and mix it up after that put flower into another bowl after that take the slices of egg plant and put it it the mixture and then dip it in flower make sure to cover it,the fry on medium high, make sure you keep putting in the butter so it don't burn when it starts to turn golden brown it is done, then add a little salt and enjoy,
dry beans, rice, frozen veggies (whichever ones are on sale), cheap bread, jar of peanut butter, jar of jelly, oats, concentrated frozen orange juice
now you can have oatmeal for breakfast, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for lunch, and beans, rice, and veggies for dinner. Boring, but cheap. I'm assuming you have basic cooking supplies, such as pots and pans, a little oil, and salt, and spices. If you don't, you are fine, but your dinners will be kind of boring.
Two carrots, a pack of potatoes, a leek, mini jar of tomato puree, a broccoli, a swede and a tub of creme fraiche. Make a soup of his and that will give you about 5 portions at least if you use half of these veg.
Packet of pasta or rice. Lettuce, shallots and feta cheese. Make a salad with luke warm pasta or the rice, the rest of the broccoli, finely chop the shallots add crumbled cheese and have a nice dressing.
Big carton of milk, that's not expensive is it? Some yogurts for brekkie. Muesli as this keeps you full for the whole day.
Quorn mince- make a vegetarian spaghetti Bolognese with the rest of the tomato puree, garlic if you have any at home. And one of the carrots.
This is my UK guess, as I have no clue as to how far $20 would last. But buy all the above and I think you'll have money left.
Bread, cheese, sugar, butter, milk, orange juice, cereal, tea, beef, spaghetti, chicken, potato, tomato sauce, apple juice, grape juice. That right there will probably take the entire 20 dollars.
Yogurt and ramen noodles. I'm in college and I'm on the same budget as you every week, and it suits me fine. They're both cheap an delicious. gg
rice, bag of frozen veggies, eggs, soy sauce......make fried rice.

baked beans lol but its cheap.
Eggs, cereal, soy milk, soup, beans, rice, peanut butter and bread.
