I was vegan but switched to vegetarian feeling like I'm cheating myself?!

Question: I was vegan but switched to vegetarian feeling like I'm cheating myself?
I have semi strong beliefs regarding myself consuming things that come from animals, cheese eggs milk etc. But due to my husbands diet, preparing his food and stocking the fridge mainly for his taste, and the cost of vegetarian substitute foods and organic/natural infredients in my area (we have only one health food store within 50 miles) I switched to vegetarian. It really disgusts me to eat eggs and drink milk so I avoid it but still I know it's in some of my food. Am I cheating myself by not following my beliefs? Or should I continue trying to adapt to vegetarianism knowing eventually I will get over the knowledge of eggs and milk in my food?

Please no comments about how unhealthy vegetarianism and veganism is and how humans were designed to eat meat. This isn't a post to debate the topic. I know how to be a healthy non meat eater I've been at it for over 9 years and am healthy as a horse. Besides I know how to safely do it. Thanks for your overaggressive concern though.....

i totally know how you feel. a similar thing happened to me when i started a very restricted diet to lose weight and i stopped eating anything unhealthy and at the time being all i could think of is me being able to eat a burger every once in a while after i lose my weight. 40 kilos later im as skinny as they come and it doesnt even cross my mind to eat a burger and if i do eat something "unhealthy" its because i was forced to haha. anyways enough about me. being vegan isnt the easiest thing especially since theres no speciality store within 50 miles of you. i think you should avoid eggs and milk as much ax you could and dont include them in recipes and such but when you eat certain stuff dont read the ingredients just make sure theres the vegetarian symbol on it and eat it cause if you read in the ingredient list that theres eggs, milk etc etc in it you'll be too disgusted to eat it and you'll end up feeling guilty afterwards.

Ugh I have the same issue. :/
I think I'm going to eat whatever food I have left in the house. Then start switching back to my old vegan habits.
You should do the same cause you are kinda cheating yourself like I am

I know what a struggle it can be for this situation to occur. I was a vegetarian for a long time before I was a vegan and, though I morally did not believe in eating milk and eggs, I ate them because of my financial means and location. It was trying, to say the least, because you are actively violating your principles, but here's how I got through it.

For one, vegan/vegetarianism means doing what you can. It doesn't mean strapping a bomb to your chest and blowing up the Colonel Sanders Museum, you know? You try to do what you can to hurt the meat industry, stop animal abuse and avoid ingesting animal products. But obviously, some situations will dictate that you violate these rules, sometimes minorly, sometimes majorly. Even though you have to eat eggs and milk right now, you are still aware of why they should not be eaten and that is better than most people.

Two, this vegetarianism could be temporary. Maybe you and your husband move to a more urban area later in life, maybe stores in your area start carrying more vegan foodstuffs, maybe you farm your own...who knows. The point here is that, further down along the line, when it is more practical, become a vegan again and do a six-month stint of fruitarianism or raw foods only (or, to make it easier, do it for one month a year. That way you can balance out your eggs and milks that you're having now.

my take on your problem is to ask the employees of the food store[s] you go to "do you sell alternatives to dairy milk" and "do you sell alternatives to eggs?".
you can also ask "do you sell tofu?".
