Is uncooked tofu safe to eat?!

Question: Is uncooked tofu safe to eat?
Last night I forgot to but some tofu for my salad. I'm just asking a question in advance, because I'm getting them tofu sometimes soon. Are they safe to eat raw?

Answers:

Yes it is safe to eat. "Tofu" is precooked soy bean curd. Raw soy milk from which tofu is made is toxic (can cause severe stomach discomfort) So the raw soy "milk" is heated/cooked first before being processed into curd or tofu. They add a coagulant (commonly used is Plaster of Paris) then drain teh excess liquid until the desired consistency is achieved (soft or silken to firm).

There's really no such thing as raw tofu. But yes, it's completely safe to eat it straight from the package. Although, I don't know why you would want to. It tastes pretty gross plain, not drained/pressed, unseasoned or cooked any further, with other ingredients added, etc. to most people (including myself, and I've been eating tofu for almost 20 years).

Yup. I eat it raw all the time. Just make sure you keep it refrigerated and you're good to go (:

Yes. It's safe.

Yep, but it's pretty tasteless.

Yes.

Tofu is cheese. You don't normally cook cheese so...
