It is not suitable for vegetarians as they need to harvest live cells from animals to culture the cells in the first place. Let's say one day they do grow a real chicken little, and no longer need to use cells from live animals. There are still questions about whether it would require more energy to produce than just eating vegetables. But for meat heads, I'd prefer them to eat this than anythig from live animals. Chances are they won't though, since meat isnt just muscle cells... it is also fat, nerve tissue, blood and all the chemicals involved in muscle innervation as well as whatever is floating around in the blood such as fats, hormones etc. Since many meat heads are unwilling to choose ethical products because they are too selfish to miss out on the taste of meat, good luck reproducing it in a way that they will find acceptable.

It certainly would be something to make me question my vegetarianism & see if a different approach could be taken.
But as for the moment in vitro meat is nowhere near being allowed near the market & won't be until sufficient tests over a long period of time prove it healthy for human consumption, you would also find that it'd be a LONG time before its actually in anyway healthy for you as a slaughtered animal meat came from a whole animal, that whole animal has the nutrients/hormones (natual) etc etc in its system. Thats pretty hard to replicate in vitro

so basically for the moment its just a hypotethical situation that will not be seen for at least a strong 15+ years
there probably aren't any negative consequences since baby humans are started that way.
Outside of the ick factor, it sure would silence the vegetarian complaint of abusing animals.
I think, to a meat eater though, it will taste utterly bland.
Veal, especially very young veal is totally tasteless to someone who is used to feasting on grass and grain fed pastured beef. Those factors add flavor.
The best flavored beef is the tough cuts of muscle that had to work the most to walk and carry the cow. While they take longer cooking there is more flavor and a muscle grown in that kind of environment you spoke of would not ever get that kind of work out to develop natural flavor.
I ea meat and I prefer the animal than the test tube as a source of my food. Just as I prefer the plants from my own farm than the prepackaged/canned stuff I see in supermarkets.
The only negative "consequences" I see as of now is that the process is so new and experimental that the end product might be costlier than the "real thing". That would make it out of financial reach of the people it's supposed to help feed which defeats the purpose of why you would have "cheaper ore economical manufactured meat". I eat meat and have no ethical nor moral dilemmas about the meat industry. I fully understand that if I eat meat, an animal must die. If there ever comes a time when that others me, I will stop. It's quite simple.
this idea pops up every now and then on this forum and I oppose the notion of creating "real fake meat" just to get vegetarians to eat meat or use it to counter their arguments regarding animal abuse issues.
I eat meat, but i think i'll pass on eating the test tube meat. lol
