I wonder how many vegans/vegetarians realize?!

Question: I wonder how many vegans/vegetarians realize?
...that when vegetables are being harvested, the farming equipment violently kills ground hogs and other such animals in the process?

Answers:

yes it does, actually when you think about it, growing veggies in general is a very violent process for animals. first you have to work up the ground before you plant, tearing up burrows of moles, mice, and countless insects and worms. then you plant the seeds and plants, the plants grow, insects and animals make their homes among the plants, they feed on the plants and veggies. then it comes time to harvest.when done commercially, or even in bigger home gardens, harvesters and tractors kill a LOT of animals, ive personally seen then kill everything from mice, to groundhogs, and snakes, to baby deer that were hiding in the garden. its really a very violent process. the worst though was one of the big corn harvesters, it caught a baby deer that the mother had bedded down and left, and it took off two of its legs, it was making the worst bawling noise ive ever heard, it had to be finished off....it was just bad....so, in all actuality, just because someone doesnt eat animals, doesnt mean they spare the lives of any more then the guy sitting next to them with steak juice on his fork.

it doesnt bother me if someone decides not to eat meat. thats a personal decision that each person has to make for themselves. what bothers me are the ones that act like they are better then others simply because they wouldnt swat a mosquito it it was feeding on their arm. im sorry. it is impossible to live your live and never be at least indirectly responsible for the death of multiple insects/animals. like i said, its not everyone. just the ones that cant respect others decisions simply because they dont agree.

i can understand what youre saying perfectly prodigy, and thats exactly what i mean.i can respect your decisions, and even though mine really dont mesh with them youre not bashing them. i can handle that. i think if more people presented their side with respect, instead of attacking anyone who doesnt agree, there woulnt be near the tension between the two.....i like your little rat avatar btw....cute.

More crops are harvested to feed animals than to feed humans. If we stopped breeding animals for food, fewer crops would need to be harvested, so fewer animals would be killed in the process of harvesting crops, not to mention the reduction in the number of animals killed for food.

Also, there is a morally relevant difference between intentionally breeding/slaughtering animals and accidentally killing animals when harvesting crops. Tens of thousands of people are killed in car accidents each year. Is it as morally wrong, then, to support the auto industry as it would be to support an industry that breeds and kills humans for food? I think not. Do you see how that's analogous to the situation of animals accidentally being killed when harvesting crops vs. animals being intentionally killed for food?

Veg*nism is about doing as little harm to animals as possible. There is no going around the fact that animals may be killed during a harvest(unless one grows their own foods, which is not always possible).

Just b/c a person cannot eliminate all suffering, does not mean they should throw up their hands and do nothing. Is your point that if a person cannot completely eliminate suffering, they should just join in? I know that animals are killed during harvest, but I am not going to eat meat(and kill more animals), on top of killing the animals during harvest(as I still eat vegetables/grains/etc, and slaughter animals do as well), simply b/c I do not have the power to stop all suffering.

The world is full of suffering. I still choose to not eat animals, make sure the clothes I buy are from ethical companies, buy fair trade, recycle, etc. I cannot change the world, I can only do my part and not participate(to the best of my ability) in unethical practices.

Yes. We realise. How many meat heads realise that 33% of the world's food crops are used to feed livestock, which makes up less than 10% of the global food budget? If they stopped killing animals for food and raising them for milk, there'd be fewer animals killed in crop production.

Do you realize how many times I've heard that? Of course we realize- or at least, most do. I'm not stupid (oh, yes, *insert witty comment about not eating meat killing my brain*).

Veganism, for me, is about doing as little harm as possible. It's impossible to do no harm at all.

Hm...

yeah, that's more ethical than purposely breeding, keeping in miserable conditions, and slaughtering BILLIONS of animals annually.

Not if you harvest your own vegetables, or buy from a small local farm that harvests by hand, not by machine.

At least we don't intentionally slaughter animals to satisfy bestial lusts

I wonder how many meat-eaters realise how pathetic "questions" like this are?

most?
no vegetarian said our soceity was perfect or humane
thats kinda the point in being vege, we know its not usually

Wow, I hope you honestly don't think you're being original. Lol.

Yes many vegans bash meat eaters and call them murderers for eating meat. But for a vegan diet Trillions of insects die every year from pesticides. Countless other animals die every year like rabbits, moles, mice, birds, snakes, turtles, and many more from planting, harvesting, and shipping the very food vegans eat. Not to mention the animals that die from clearing more land for produce farming.

So why is this a pathetic question (No chance without a cat)?? Truth hurt?

Awesome question, just sayin'
haha but no one probably ever thought of that
