I want to know what 'lunatic' eats if they don't eat meat or plants.

It was a moral opposition to meat. I thought the general public was not getting a good quality of meat seeing as there are people dying or getting poisoned from illnesses caused by the poor quality of meat. Restaurants (mostly fast food chains) are paying FDA (or other fees) rather than spending the extra money to get a better quality meat; I think Taco Bell uses something that is grade D or lower which means that 2% of the "meat" they are serving you is actual meat, the rest is unhealthy bi products which causes diseases. The other unhealthy thing is the hormones being injected into meat (mostly chickens) to make them grow faster so that they can make more of a profit. The quality is being sacrificed for quantity.

I know the same argument can be made for vegetables since there are pesticides being added to it but i'm sure not all farms are using those methods for vegetables since not as many people are purchasing vegetables, people cannot afford it or they simply don't care enough about their health to buy them.

5 year vegetarian, junior college student.

A few things that contributed to it:

- The realization that human muscle is "meat". This never sat well with me as a kid, and I was always uncomfortable eating something so similar to the composition of my own body.

- This is disgusting, but it was a huge factor in deciding to go veg: I used to work at an animal hospital where part of the job description was to help with the cremation of recently euthanized pets. Day after day, for the several months that I worked there, I would have to walk the live dogs though the smell of their deceased and cremating counter-parts. The smell alone will make me never want to touch meat again.

- Health reasons. I was raised to eat meat. A lot of meat. And junk food. As a child, it wasnt uncommon for me to go though-out an entire day eating nothing but animal products. Obviously, living this way isnt healthy, and I was extremely overweight and unhealthy at a young age, and in addition my father was on a few different medications to control his high blood pressure. I didnt want to go down the same path, so I went vegetarian (now vegan) and ate healthier. I've never felt better.

- I got a dog. I know thats not usually a reason that most people go vegetarian, but having a really strong relationship with an animal made me realize their potential. My dog is ridiculously intelligent, and has a plethora of tricks up her sleeves (30+). If my dog can do this, why not a pig, a species that has been proven to be even more intelligent than dogs? My point, I guess, is that my experience with animals thus far in my life has made me not want to eat them.

- Environmental / Economical reasons, which you can read about here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Environment…

And lastly, food safety concerns involved with meat. I'm just not willing to take the risk.

I'm a vegan not because I love and respect animals. I'm a vegan because I detest and loath plants.

Edit:

Hey eener! I said I am a vegan. That means I eat plants. The reason I eat plants is because I hate them and eating them means that they suffer horribly and die for my sustenance and that pleases me. Just the thought of them being ripped from the ground, mutilated and/or cooked gives me goosebumps.

Mainly for health and ethical reasons. I just don't believe animals are here for our use. They have their own place in this world, and this place isn't on our plate. I'm also vegan for health reasons. After going vegan my skin cleared up, I've lost a few pounds, and overall I have more energy.

I'm a vegetarian because i love animals and i don't really like the taste of meat/fish so it doesn't bother me to don't eat it.

My cat died.
I had her since I was 7 and she was like my sister/baby. We grew up together slept next to each other and ate dinner together.

I seen this a few days after she died:

And I watched Meet your Meat and I've haven't ate any meat since then.

I don't want to eat meat, nor do I need to eat meat to live a happy and healthy life. That's reason enough for me to be a vegetarian.

Vegetarian since birth

For Animal Welfare reasons.

Vegan

I'm a vegan because it makes me feel good, for animal cruelty, and environmental reasons.

Factory farming made me stop consuming meat.
