Feeling very sad regarding slaughter houses.?!
I guess what I'm really asking is are things really as bad in these slaughter houses as they are portrayed? I have seen so many things that go on on these farms that just break my heart and I guess I"m just looking for comfort so that I can live my life without constantly being haunted about what I'm eating :(

It is true. If it makes you this upset, you would probably make a great vegan. I say vegan, rather than vegetarian, because Dairy Farms are even worse the Factory Farms. Plus any Diary you buy is part of the meat industry so you'd still be supporting them by buying their products. When I first saw the video that change my life and made me go vegan, I cried. I was in shock for days. Even now, when I pass a McDonald's I always get flashes of the video going through my head everytime.
If you feel you can't go vegan (If that's the case, it's really not affecting you as much as you say.) try buying meat from places like Whole Foods. They have an Animal Welfare system and only buy from Certified Humane farms. There is nothing humane about slaughtering an animal for food. But it's better than the other factory farms.
Vegan
Undercover investigations have uncovered workers inside the meat industry punching, kicking, slaping and stomping on the heads of animals. The way animals are treated and killed inside the meat industry is barbaric.
If it breaks your heart and you dont like what you have seen, cut meat out of your diet. If you do that, instead of being responsible for this, you'll actually be saving animals.
Slaughter houses are as bad as they seem. I became a vegetarian, because I saw the "meet your meat" video on my favorite bands myspace page. That video made me cry. If you can't become a vegetarian, then try buying organic meat. It's alot less cruel to kill the animals if they have atleast had a decent hormone free life. Or you could go buy meat directly from a farm? Meat produced on smaller farms is usually done more humanely then high production farms.
Hope this helps
My uncle worked for a pig farm "slaughterhouse". He won't even talk about the things that went on there. It's seriously messed with him. My other family also works there and they JOKE about it. Not around him though. It's real. It's sick.
First time I knew about it started crying and felt the world was lost, I got pretty depressed :p
I try not to think of it now, as to people who eat meat I just don't get how they manage to. It's disgusting. I'm a vegetarian due to a health problem I had at age 2, anything but being one seems unnatural to me...
I try to think of good things to" get over" animal cruelty, concentrate on my goals, have fun...
But it's mind blowing and I will NEVER reconcile with the world or the human race, as they'll never stop this insanity
If you think that is scary you should see the atrocities committed by companies like Dem Monte and others at their "farms". I've seen farmer grab ahold things by the head and literally throw them into giant containment bins for "processing" they are even killing little babies out there people. They are killing living things without any remorse!!! I've personally seen footage of people mutilating these poor living things and for what!?! Just so you can have your precious salad! It disgusts me. And don't even get me start on the plight of the carrot. You can search Google for reverand Maynard for more proof.
No, they're not what you're seeing. There are two problems here.
1. You are watching anti meat/animal rights propoganda. They are dishonest. They take the very worst they can find or even stage terrible things and claim it's the norm in meat packing plants. And that's what they are: meat packing plants that also slaughter the animals. PETA, etc., want your money. They want you to buy their Tshirts, their videos, their bumper stickers, a membership, etc. They take in $millions every year in donations from people like you and spend very, very little of it on animals. In fact, PETA alone kills more animals than several states combined!
Ellie Krieger, a registered dietitian, and host of Food Network’s popular “Healthy Appetite" recently visited a beef packing plant. Here's what she said about the actual slaughter of the animals:
"The last thing I saw was the actual harvest or killing. To be sure, it is not a pleasurable thing to witness in general, but if you eat meat, the simple fact is an animal is sacrificed for your nourishment, a reality we are all too removed from in modern society. The trick is to do it humanely, and this is where I was most impressed. The system Cargill uses was developed in part by Dr. Temple Grandin, the autistic animal scientist who, with her heightened sensitivity, was able to pinpoint specific ways to keep cows stress-free throughout the process (there is an award winning HBO film about her starring Claire Danes.) The whole environment is kept purposefully calm, with no loud noises or bright lights. Before they realize what is going on the cows are hit precisely on the head, given a concussion so they are rendered senseless, then their throats are cut and their blood is drained. The whole thing takes roughly a minute. I watched intently as the cows moved through and noticed no shred of panic or unease."
Hardly what you've heard or seen in the altered videos, is it?

2. Animals are not people. What you see that would make you cringe and are told is hurtful, harmful to animals is not necessarily. Domesticated livestock doesn't get upset when the other "girls" won't talk to them today; they don't want to visit the mall; they don't save and plan to send their kids to college; they don't treat their offspring any different than any other animal after it's weaned. They're animals. They have different needs than humans, different minds than humans. You should accept that and get on with your life.
And I understand that Oprah is going to visit a slaughterhouse sometime this month. That will be interesting.....
ADDED: and for those who say if you go veg*n you're not supporting slaughterhouses, that's totally wrong. Every day in most every way YOU support slaughterhouses. The books you buy contain animal glues from animal slaughter byproducts, the furniture you set in, the roads you drive on, the sheetrock in your room are just a very few of the items you paid for that support animal slaughter.

What you see in these videos are the worst examples, so you can assume that this does not happen in EVERY abattoir EVERY day. If watching these clips upsets you, don't watch them. You already know all you need to know about it.
In 2006 I was researching some undercover footage obtained in a HLS puppy lab in the UK. I saw some of the most brutal and unforgettable things I've ever seen. As a result I was miserable for about six months. So now I don't watch vivisection material, I've never seen all of Earthlings as a result. It is one thing to inform yourself, but compassionate people can actually be harmed by these things. So now I rely on written reports for new information as it does not have the same impact.
So as long as you are vegan you are not supporting slaughter industries and are doing as much as can be reasonably expected of anyone to oppose the kind of cruelty you are talking about. If you want to go further than this and be involved in an activist network then just be careful about what material you choose to expose yourself to in the future.

Veganism involves killing and hurting more living beings than livestock.
Eg. if you harvest corn, you'll realise hundreds of insects are killed, intentionally or by accident, just to plant and harvest a bag of corn. That's a lot more 'death' and painful injuries to living animals (eg. half-squashing an insect on the corn, causing a slow painful death) than to kill a single cow that feeds many people.
Whichever diet you choose, a lot of death and suffering of other sentient beings will occur to feed you.
What you see in those under cover videos us all true. I cried when I saw the video from mercy for animals where the piglets were gassed. What I do is just read a book I like, draw or spend time with my farm animal stuffed animals. Factory farms are absolutly horible. Go veg if you know where it comes from.
Vegetarian
dude be smart, and see who made that video, the people in those slaughter videos are Peta members slaughtering animals, they want everyone to be vegan but they are the first ones to kill and abuse animals, if you want to know how slaughter houses work go to one instead of watching some unreliable peta video
slaughterhouses are very disturbing. if you want, eat halal meat because it is killed quickly in a humane manner.
Evolution br0.
Many of those videos are staged by PETA and filmed for shock effect.
hey, thats life...
lots of animals die so that humans can make money and get protein...
it would be far too expensive for these companies to make the lives of their animals comfortable.
It costs about 4-8 times as much to raise a cow hormone, antibiotic and pesticide free depending on the breed. They grow slower without the extra drugs, so they are older when they're slaughtered. If they're exclusively grass fed cattle it's about 3-4 times as much but the taste will vary dramatically between animals. However because there are fewer middle men between you and your meat, the extra cost to the consumer is 2 to 4 times.
no it is not as bad as you think it is and this is why..... the videos you see for the most part are propaganda set about by PETA ... i challenge you to check these videos out for your self 1. check the copy right date on them 2. who funded the production of it (that could prove to be difficult) ... i believe you will find that most of these are out dated and produced and funded by a bias group such as animal rights activist. with that said NO this world is not a perfect place and there are humans that should be run through the slaughterhouse unfortunately they were put in charge... i have seen slaughter videos as well both with animals that live and die better than the people who consume them and i have seen the things that actually will make you vomit literally. these things are regulated highly by the FDA . but again ... so is cocaine but we still have issues with that... if you want to help eat organic, cage free, or free range. don't stop eating it just know what you are eating. animals will always be killed regardless if we eat them or not.
