Are there any negative side effects to taking soy protein?!

Question: Are there any negative side effects to taking soy protein?
I want to take soy protein, to help build muscle. I workout three times a week. Are there any negative side effects to taking soy protein mix? I read that whey protein, if taken regularly can be harmful to your kidneys and liver. Is this the same for soy protein?

An large intake of soy was connected to cancer in one Chinese study I read a few years ago. I also found this news item..

http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/news/su…

"CANCER patients are being warned to avoid foods rich in soy because they can accelerate the growth of tumours.

The Cancer Council NSW will issue guidelines today, warning about the dangers of high-soy diets and soy supplements for cancer patients and those people in remission from cancer.

At particular risk are people suffering from hormone-dependent cancers, including breast and prostate cancer - the two most common types of cancer in Australia."

Generally, don't depend on a single bulk source of protein, you need a mix.
