Thinking about becoming a vegetarian?!

Question: Thinking about becoming a vegetarian?
Hi I'm a fourteen yr old girl just to give you some back ground info. I have recently become repulsed by meat and what the poor animals we eat go through. I'm considering becoming a vegetarian, but I dont know what my parents will think. They probably won't be able to buy me all the special foods that a vegetarian needs to help with protein.

Can you give me any advice on becoming a vegetarian and what the issues will be with becoming a vegetarian.

Thanks!

Answers:

Your parents don't eat beans? Beans are full of protein.

Your parents should respect your choice. Unfortunately if they don't, you may have to either make your own food or be forced to eat what they give you until you move out. It really sucks that they can control this aspect of your life. Especially when you have a REALLY good reason.

EDIT: Bob doesn't know what he's talking about. You can get all the nutrients you need, especially as a vegetarian. And if anything you can take supplements, just in case. Unfortunately he is right in the aspect that if you do go veggie, and your parents don't get you what you need to remain that way, you may become extremely malnourished.

One of the biggest health issues related to being a vegetarian is vitamin B-12 deficiency. So be sure to start taking a daily multivitamin, and ask your doctor if there are any other supplements you might want to take.

Next, you don't really need any "special" foods. There's plenty of protein in milk, eggs, Greek yogurt, beans, nuts, certain cereals, . If you're able, offer to put $5-10 in to groceries now and then to try out some vegetarian-friendly things. Maybe some soy milk or LightLife protein products.

I'm not a vegetarian, but I do have concerns about animal cruelty. I resolve this by eating vegetarian meals when I go out, and buying meat from local farms where I know they aren't caged up in dark pens their whole lives. That's a slightly more expensive option, which your parents may not be up to.

It won't cost an arm and a leg to become a vegetarian. And eventually, you'll learn a lot of really delicious and inexpensive recipes. Just talk to your parents about it and be willing to put in an extra hand to show them how you'd like to move forward.

Well usually vegetarians get really skinny and die because of the lack of nutrients that you can only get from meat. A death like that if very slow and very painful because your body eats its self for nutrients.
Good-luck!

I'm a doctor.

cure: go to the butcher, buy a half kilo tenderloin. Fry it in a pan with olive oil and salt for a few minutes on each side, stop before the center stops being red. Eat it. Now you are cured :)

I WAS GUNNA BECOME A VEGETARIAN ONCE! BUT I FAILED. LOL
