Are there more health risk than benefits when it comes to "Soy" products?!
Answers:
How risky is eating soy, check this out.
"A very large percentage of soy - over 90% - is genetically modified and it also has one of the highest percentages contamination by pesticides of any of the foods we eat.
Soy processors have worked hard to get these anti-nutrients out of the finished product, particularly soy protein isolate (SPI) which is the key ingredient in most soy foods which imitate meat and dairy products, including baby formulas and some brands of soy milk.
SPI is not something you can make in your own kitchen. Production takes place in industrial factories where soybeans are first mixed with an alkaline solution to remove fiber, then precipitated and separated using an acid wash and, finally, neutralized in an alkaline solution.
Acid washing in aluminum tanks leaches high levels of aluminum into the final product. As a result, soy-based formula also has over 1000% more aluminum than conventional milk based formulas".
"Soybeans also contain potent enzyme-inhibitors. These inhibitors block uptake of trypsin and other enzymes which the body needs for protein digestion. Normal cooking does not de-activate these harmful antinutrients, which can cause serious gastric distress, reduced protein digestion and can lead to chronic deficiencies in amino acid uptake.
In addition, soybeans also contain hemagglutinin, a clot-promoting substance which causes red blood cells to clump together. These clustered blood cells cannot properly absorb oxygen for distribution to the body's tissues, and are unable to help in maintaining good cardiac health".

definitely not. All the scientific info suggests soy consumption protects against cancer and chronic heart disease due to the antioxidant isoflavins in soy. Epidemiological research shows that men consuming soy have lower incidence of prostate cancer and women consuming soy products have lower incidence of breast cancer and reduced risk of endometrial cancer.

Unless you're allergic, soy is perfectly healthy. Its better for you than dairy. You know who is pushing all the "health risks" about soy? The dairy industry. It is perfectly safe to consume. And just like with everything else, unless you go overboard with eating/drinking soy, its completely healthy.
I am concerned about the GMO issue...how do we know if the soy product we are buying is using genetically modified soy or not? I do not like to use that kind of food. I am not sure the regulators allow them to say they are "not GMO" any more, I could be wrong though about that.
It is good to use due to the protein content, and is nonfat types are available as well. Many intolerant to lactose are aided by the absences of such in soy milk. Like many other healthy food, many attempts to make them less healthy..and more tasty are put forward..so be discerning in what you buy and trust your source.
Overall, I say eat soy unless you become allergic. Eat the pure stuff if you can find it. Namaste !
