Do I need to eat vegetables if I take a multivitamin.?!

Question: Do I need to eat vegetables if I take a multivitamin.?
Do I really need to eat a variety of vegetables if I take a multivitamin? The only vegetables I commonly eat are low fat beans and corn. I keep my calories around 1700 a day with all the recommended nutrients as in protein, carbs, fiber, fat and stay away from sugar. I know vegetables supply phytonutrients but are there any other reasons to eat this undesired food?

Ofcourse you do. Vegetables are part of the food pyramid. Just because you take a multivitamin doesn't mean that you don't need to eat vegetables.

Of course you do.
Besides containing phytonutrients as you say there is fibre and a host of other nutrients and enzymes not all of which we know about.
Spinach, for example contains COQ10 which is not a phytonutrient or a vitamin and is not found in most vitamin and mineral supplements. There are very few non-meat sources for coq10, and its good for the heart.
That's just one example.

Corn and beans that you mention are not really vegetables and fall into the grain and pulses category.
Veggies are low in calories so you don't need to worry.

Yes you still need to eat your vegetables! Vitamins in pill form are a poor way for your body to receive nutrients. Most of the vitamins in a daily multivitamin are not absorbed into your body, they simply pass through with your urine. That is why you often have bright yellow pee after you take multivitamins. My uncle is a pharmacist and he always told us that vitamin supplements just give you really expensive pee. The best way to get vitamins is by eating fruits and vegetables because your body is able to break the vitamins and absorb them through the natural process of digestion.

If you can afford it, take Juice Plus or Balance of Nature supplements as well as your multivitamin and mineral supplements. They're capsules that are loaded with powdered fruits and vegetables, and you won't have to taste them or feel full.

of coarse you do.1/3 of your diet should be veggies.mainly greens if possible. and v8 has no vitamins. you have to juice your fruits and veggies fresh to get the full affect.
