Congrats on wanting to go vegetarian - one of the best choices I ever made in my life. I felt healthy from it and I also felt great knowing I was saving animals simply by NOT eating them!

Don't become a vegetarian if you aren't sure you can leave behind chicken. It also isn't a good idea if you don't like vegetables or fruit. But if you are sure you can, just keep reminding yourself to eat foods you like that don't have meat but are still healthy. Also you shouldn't listen to people who will judge you by what you eat.
I'm vegetarian
You can't become a vegetarian if you continue to eat chicken! That's meat, not veggies. Some more-or-less vegetarians do eat fish now and again.
Why do you want to become a vegetarian? Perhaps your reason will have something to do with how you come to a conclusion for yourself. I can't think that anybody will hate you for making your own decision about this.

Chicken was the last animal flesh I gave up (I never cared for seafood), but give it up I did. It was a long process, but one day I was so disgusted with some wings I was eating that I decided to go veg.
Anyway, I'm no fan of PETA either. Google "vegetarian starter guide" and you will see many organizations that offer information. Find one you like and order from them. I'm a fan of Compassion Over Killing (www.cok.net). COK also has a tiny booklet of simple vegan recipes.
There's a company called Gardein that makes all sorts of meat analogues. They make scallopine "breasts" that you can use in recipes just like chicken, Seven-Grain Tenders, and Chipotle Lime Tenders. Many grocery stores also sell veggie nuggets that, when dipped in sauce, are almost indistinguishable from animal foods.
For recipes, check out www.vegweb.com. To find vegetarian and veg-friendly restaurants, go to www.happycow.net. Try to see if there's a vegetarian society in your area or a vegetarian/vegan Meetup. You'll meet other veg*ans who will give you the support you need to kick the habit.
And I won't hate on someone who goes just vegetarian and not vegan. I will only politely remind them that if they're in it for the animals, they should know that there is a piece of veal in every glass of milk and that the egg industry is appallingly cruel. Chickens really get the worst treatment in animal industry.
If the person who inspired you is not a celebrity, talk with that person and ask for guidance.
Good luck!
I agree with VeggieTart's advice and recommendations.
Take it at your own pace.. if any omnivores or hardline veg*ns annoy you, that's their problem, not yours.
I'd say one of the best things you can do is up your veggie consumption. Especially raw veggies and salads. Eat your greens!! Some people have trouble with greens, but there are a couple of tricks you can use:
1) Shred the greens with a knife and then knead them through a dressing of olive oil and lemon juice. They will wilt and become soft and hearty; then you can add avocado, chopped nuts etc.
2) Make green smoothies!! Seriously, they are so good for you and many people find them an easy and delicious way to get those greens into you. Drink them for a while and not only do you feel healthier, but many people who drink them also lose their cravings for processed foods and start craving healthy stuff instead. Visit Victoria Boutenko's site at www.rawfamily.com; she'll have heaps of recipes and info for you.
Drink water and do your exercise too.

And yes as VT said, google "vegetarian" and your area and you might find a local vegetarian network or support group.
Vegan 2 years, veggie 2 years before that, part time raw foodist... and LOVIN it!
That was my biggest problem when I became vegetarian, I could give up beef, pork and fish really easily but chicken was another matter! I've sent a link in the sources section that will maybe give you some inspiration on recipes and so on. And don't worry no one will hate you :) Good luck!

Don't eat anything that contains meat. It doesn't matter if others hate you- it is your own opinion! How could they hate you for that?? Follow your dreams and do what YOU believe is right. I have faith in you~!

If someone hates you because you're not a meat eater or not a vegan, then they're not someone who has a life.
stay with the chicken then
