If humans were designed as omnivores, why do vegans and vegetarians exist?!

Because humans have the capacity to make their own choices.
Were humans designed to drive cars, wear clothes, sit on the internet or watch television?
I worked for the Missouri Dept of Mental Health since 1987 and vegetarianism or veganism are not listed as disabilities or diseases by the World Health Organization or the American Psychiatric Association.
I have been vegetarian since 1984 and never mention it unless somebody asks me.. I don't see how I could be attention seeking. What attention am I supposed to get? Free money or what?
I have seen some folks make a big deal about being "vegetarian", but curiously, most of them actually eat fish or chicken and aren't really vegetarians anyway. I have also seen some patients in the mental hospital who claim to be vegetarian because they think it will help them conceal an eating disorder. Other patients would insist on a vegetarian diet one day and complain about not getting hamburgers on the the next day.
If you have to live in a "first world" country to be vegetarian, how come vegetarianism has been practiced in India for several thousand years (and still is)?
Because we were given the ability to think, choose, and ultimately decide what we want to do. Vegetarians and vegans exist because we realize that the cruelty of animal is very bad and want to do something about it.
The same reason you decided to ask this in the vegetarian/vegan section, because you decided you wanted to do it. Then you took action to do so.
It takes a strong person to give up meat. It's no easy task, but when you think about it, it is disgusting. Disgusting what they do to the animal, disgusting how they treat the animal, how they treat the employees. It's cleaner to go to a public restroom and lick the toilet seat in my opinion.
I'm so vegan my friends call me Brussel Crow.
Do you really think humans were "designed" to fly, be able to speak to people on the other side of the world, communicate with strangers instantly, and generally do any of the things that technology allows us to do?
Vegans and vegetarians exist because humans have something called free will. We're able to choose what we do. This is a blessing. Not everyone is able to choose vegetarianism, just like not everyone is able to choose to eat meat twice a day.
"Omnivore" means people can eat either meat and/or plant foods not MUST eat meat and plant foods. "Vegetarians/vegans" are still omnivores who just happen to eat plants only.
although your assumption that some do indeed do it for attention is not that far off.. some folks can't seem to resist announcing they are vegetarian as if it gives them a sort of special aura.
omnivore |??mn??v?r|
noun
an animal or person that eats food of both plant and animal origin.
ORIGIN late 19th cent.: from French, from Latin omnivorus ‘omnivorous.’
--Webster Dictionary, Macintosh's MacBook OS X
This tells us that humans eat food of plant and animal origin meaning as in a WHOLE not as individuals. God gave us the ability and free will to do as we please, whether be choosing to SAVE the life of an animal or eat it. Im sorry but:
If it was breathin I ain't eatin
because being an omnivore doesnt mean that you have to eat meat. it means that you have the capability to do so. humans also have the capability to get all of the necessary nutrients on a vegan diet - hence the reason that veg*ns exist
Because they are able to provide their protien needs with other foods they choose to not include animals in their diets.
I love being vegetarian...I never have digestive issues, work out maybe twice a week and still look sharp...and best of all...still get to indulge in chocolate. Life is great as a vegetarian.
i am going to answer your question with a question
Why do we have vegetables
Vegitairian
person preference
Difference of opinion. Wow, amazing we have that choice, right?
humans can choose to eat both meat and veggies
They want to to.
Don't get it either, but whatever...
They've put too much thought into their food. Because animals have feelings and we interact with them alot. They grow attached and no longer want to eat them. OR because we live in a time where everything is prepackaged. We never see them kill the animal. When some people think of it as dead animal flesh, they get sick. Both are pretty valid statements. I love animals and thinking of eating the flesh of something that has feelings and walked the earth with us sorta makes me feel sick but meat is too good to give up for me lol.
Vegetarians don't seem to notice that plants were once living too before we eat them, they just don't have feelings or interact with us.
Idk, veggies and vegans need to stop thinking about their food and just eat what God gave us. Plants AND animals.
I thought about becoming a vegetarian. The reasons above are why. But of course, meat tastes really good.. I just try not to think of it as an animal.
Because we live in first world countries where we can choose not to kill animals and have a lower risk of cancer and heart disease or we can choose to continue eating them and be unhealtier and kill hundreds of animals a year. We don't need to kill animals to survive anymore. We have a choice and because we are not ignorant we have chosen not to.
The only reason they exist is because of money and fully stocked grocery stores. In a natural setting where they had to get their own food they would have to eat meat or die.
Its winter where I live, its going to be below zero tonight. Not many plants to eat.
Attention whores... sike nahhh.
not sure... hey, they choose to eat a certain way.
we love to eat meat, delicious animal meat.
Mentally challenged beings indeed.
