what vitamins do vegans need?!

Question: What vitamins do vegans need?
Ive decided to become a vegan and not eat animals, and so I read that you would have to take vitamin d and vitamin b12, and so I'm wondering if that's all the vitamins that I will need to replace not eating that meat and chicken that I used to eat that provides protein.

ALSO.. this is new to me, and so I usually grocery shop at walmart neighborhood market, and so I am the only one in my family (my lil girl and my husband live with me) who is doing this, and so if anyone has any tips or anything for me to help me out, that would be wonderful and greatly appreciated.

Thank you again

If you eat a healthy, balanced, vegan diet, the only vitamin you should need to supplement is B12, as it does not occur naturally in plants. But it probably wouldn't be a bad idea to take a vegan multivitamin, especially when you're just starting out.

I can recommend the Vegetarian & Vegan Society's Wallchart.
It gives the best vegan sources for all the nutrients you need.
You do not need to take supplements of any kind.

Vegan for many years and very fit & healthy

It's AMAZING Hope this helps! http://hot2.info/336411/vitamin-b12

You need the same vitamins you needed before... you just now are refusing to eat what gives them to you naturally, so you get to take pills!

Hi -- great to hear you're going vegan. I went vegan about 4 years ago and I'm so glad I did. Not only do I feel healthier than ever before in my life but Im glad to know I'm helping animals and the environment, too. I started by ordering a free vegetarian starter kit from here for some recipes and tips: http://www.peta.org/living/vegetarian-li…

The only vitamin I take is B12, though I also get it naturally though soymilk and seaweed (I try to work seaweed into a lot of the soups I make!) Protein is easy to get though vegan foods and so is iron. Iron can be found in soy/tofu products, leafy green veggies, and nuts.

PS: Here's some good, helpful vegan recipes!

I adapted old recipes that I liked - such as lasagna to make them with soy cheese and fake meats. My favorite brands are Silk Soymilk, Tofutti vegan cream 'cheese', Boca burgers, Morningstar fake meats, Amy's "vegan TV dinners" and more. You can buy any of these products from Walmart and if they don't have them, just ask :)
