Rab is right, but it is not coffee in a sense, it is a coffee substitute, in the US the product sold by General Foods known as Postum is made with roasted Chicory root, it got started there back in the time of the US Civil War when the North's blockade of certain foods made it necessary for the South to use chicory roots, they roasted it and ground it to make a coffee like beverage, although it has been used by many cultures for century prior to that. The chicory root is a relative of the dandelion flower, in fact it can be used in place of it.

Nestle use to make a coffee and chicory beverage powder called "Encore" and may still, not here in Canada, if you have a European deli or grocery there are many Polish and Swiss beverage powder similar, it has no caffeine in it and is alot less harsh on your system, but can cause diuretic issues and is a bowel cleanser in some people
