It's only because of cultural norms. Unlike cows, pigs, and deer, Cats and dogs are frequently kept as pets in the Western world, but in some places in the Far East and Africa, they are more commonly eaten as food. And it is commonly believed that fish have no feelings, or that they don't matter since they have less-developed circulatory and nervous systems than reptiles, birds, and mammals.

I'll be honest, I don't consider it wrong to eat domestic animals, unless the animal is of an endangered species. I've even eaten cat meat on a couple occasions, and would eat it again even though it's not my favorite.

Around the world it is most commonly accepted to eat the flesh of herbivorous animals as opposed to carnivores. It also makes the most sense ecologically, as grazers can turn more or less inedible leafy vegetation into nutritious food. It doesn't make as much sense to raise carnivores as food because they wouldn't add any caloric or nutritional value to their feed (though it is done on a limited basis in some places) and are more likely to harbor certain parasites or pathogens. Wild carnivores quickly become very scarce when they are hunted extensively. They are usually hunted for sport, for fur, or to reduce competition with humans for herbivores. But in famine or starvation conditions people will eat whatever is around.

Notice that pigs are omnivores, and taboo in more places than are grazers, but in fewer than are carnivores.

Depending on the culture/society to which you are referring, it ISN'T wrong to eat cats and dogs and it IS wrong to eat fish or cows or pigs or deer or rabbit or other animals.

Different cultures/societies choose on their own what is considered a "domestic animal", just as they choose on their own which animals they consider "pets" and which animals they consider "food".

Simply becasue we are socially conditioned (most vegetarians quite rightly would say brainwashed) to think that eating cows and pigs is ok..
We just see what's on the supermarket shelf. If we had to kill it ourselves I'm sure there would be alot more vegetarians.
So the answer in a nutshell is because this is what we are told is 'right' and 'wrong'. The simple fact is that all animal killing for meat is murder.

Apparently its wrong to eat the cute ones in the US. Dog and cat meat is popular in many countries:

It's only "wrong" to eat one type of animal over another if you practice speciesism.

I think you are confused. Deer are not domestic animals usually. Domesticated animals are usually what we consider pets...like dogs and cats...People don't eat them because they have an emotional connection to them. Without understanding your question, that's really the most I can say.

Who says it's "wrong" to eat cats and dogs? Cats and dogs are food animals in some parts of the world. Koreans and Chinese both eat them.

I don't care if you eat cats and dogs. Just as long as it's not MY cat or dog.

It isn't "wrong", it just isn't socially acceptable in most cultures that are conditioned to think of dogs and cats as pets.

because domestic animals are domestic animals , they belong to someone. if they dont belong to anyone else then is not wrong

Who said it was wrong? I have eaten dog and horse, not in this country, but I have eaten them. They are Very popular in other parts of the world.

Umm....never seen a wild cow before. Last time I checked, it was a domesticated animal.

Who said it was wrong? Cats and dogs are used as food in more than one country...just not here.

Because we are use dogs and cats as pets.

it has an eewww factor. Most people view their pets as members of the family.. It would be like consuming your cousin.

its a cultural taboo

some countries do eat dogs, cats, horses.

Right..wrong are subjective matters dear-there are human races eating dogs, cats, rats etc.

Cats and dogs, depend on you to survive. But cows and pigs, deer rabbit, and those animals are production animals. They give you food, are made to give you food.

interesting question but i would die if someone was eating their pet thats just wrong on SO many levels!
