No, I don't want to be a vegetarian. I understand that not eating domesticated livestock results in the deaths of more animals.

"Would pasture-based animal agriculture cause least harm?

Animals of the field are killed by several factors, including:

1. Tractors and farm implements run over them.
2. Plows and cultivators destroy underground burrows and kill animals.
3. Removal of the crops (harvest) removes ground cover allowing animals on the surface to be killed by predators.
4. Application of pesticides.

So, every time the tractor goes through the field to plow, disc, cultivate, apply fertilizer and/or pesticide, harvest, etc., animals are killed. And, intensive agriculture such as corn and soybeans (products central to a vegan diet) kills far more animals of the field than would extensive agriculture like forage production, particularly if the forage was harvested by ruminant animals instead of machines. So perhaps fewer animals would be killed by producing beef, lamb, and dairy products for humans to eat instead of the vegan diet envisioned by Regan."

Did "peda" tell you that no matter what you eat, animals are going to die? Why is it ok for bunny rabbits, field mice, etc., to die for the vegetarian diet, but not ok for cows, chickens and pigs to die for my diet?

You can be a healthy veggie! Its not true that you will lose weight.

Im sorry to say that your age has a lot to do with how this question should be answered.

If your under 16, I feel you should be keeping a bit closer to whats expected by your parents, but if your feeling 'forced' to eat meat that's probably pushing you away from it. What you could do is limit your intake yourself and eat a balance diet with more limited meat, but don't make a big deal of it or the whole family will be watching you and trying to control your diet.

Post 16 years, you should be allowed to control your own diet, if your parents are worried, show them that protein can be obtained from other sources too and that you're not going to become a judgmental veggie trying to change the world (or go on at them), and that its just that you don't want to fill up on meat anymore and want to try something new!

My family wasn't really supportive of me going vegetarian because they were afraid I wasn't going to get enough protein. I went vegetarian after seeing some Peta videos on factory farming but please don't follow everything peta has to offer, sure its a great organization for promoting the suffering and torture of animals and how you can stop it but they usually only show you the bad sides to everything and they pay famous people who would wear fur or leather any other time to be in an ad saying "No fur! or fur free!" There's this one group who burns down testing labs that have animals in them so they're kind of hypocrites. Talk to your parents and tell them how you feel about eating meat and tell them you would really appreciate it if they would be open to you going vegetarian. Good luck!

Vegetarian for 1.5 years

If I were you, I would try to explain to them the real reasons you want to be a vegetarian. Do some research about vegetarianism and help them to understand. You could tell them about how the animals are treated, the positive effects of vegetarianism on the environment, and about how being vegetarian can keep you from getting some diseases. I'm sure if you explain to them your real reasons they won't bother you about it anymore.

I am an adult so I was very lucky to have made my decision outside of the home. My dad still thinks I am on a "diet" (as in, not the real definition of what diet means but diet as in your only trying to loose weight diet). I am a vegan which is a lifestyle and my "diet" is my life consist of from what I eat.. He is always shocked I do not eat anything that comes from animals and always making un nice comments..

Vegan because I do not feel it is right to kill life for you own...
