Why are there so many people who are against the PETA?!

Question: Why are there so many people who are against the PETA?
It's obvious that they are simply trying to help animals through not eating meat or using them in any other thing that involves killing them. I have no idea what is wrong with their personal choices. I believe that vegetarianism is an excellent choice. So why are there all these sassy websites such as: PETA: People Eating Tasty Animals and PETA kills animals, (which it does not). Maybe this seems like a stupid question but I just don't understand, do you?

It's okay to be vegetarian but PETA does kill animals they support bsl and terrorist groups and they want all pets banned to even the best pet owner and believe they shouldn't be alive because their domesticated and they don't want animals reintroduced to the wild because it's dangerous for them but they also don't want them in zoos so where do they want them to go they're all hypocrites

My brain

Ppl R against PETA b/c they don't like their methods... but PETA sez they can never go far enough or do enough to expose cruelty where ever it exsists... however, they do not advocate violence in any way... those supporters to do violence are going against PETA's policy & are acting on their own... PETA sez the best way to help animals on WWW.FACTORYFARMING.COM is 2 go veg., but I think most ppl go veg b/c it is a healthier lifestyle & it's those ppl who say PETA gives vegetarianism a bad name.

Many vegetarians and vegans (including myself) do not support PETA in any way. Not only do they resort to extremist tactics to "spread their message" (I equate their anti-fur ads with the pro-life movement's posters... tasteless, crude, and not going for anything beyond an "ick" factor). They constantly resort to sexuality to promote vegetarian diets (I'm no feminist, but even I find that disgusting and unnecessary). 98% of the animals surrendered to them to be "re-homed" are actually immediately euthanized regardless of their potential to actually BE rehomed. And a large amount of the information they spread is actually either exaggerated or mis-represented. There are a large number of other issues with the organization as a whole, but these are some of the most obvious.

Quite frankly, they make all vegetarians and vegans look like nut-bags.

I'm a vegetarian, but I'm against PETA. I mean, yeah, I agree with what they're going for, a vegetarian society, but they just go for it all wrong. They do radical things and it makes people think vegetarianism is extreme, radical, weird, evil.. I think the sassy websites are just stupid people with no lives who just can't accept that other peoples beliefs are different from theirs, and they make fun of them. But actually, that's kind of what Peta is, making fun of omnivores.

Vegetarian for 4 years :)

because peta is nothing but a bunch of fanatical fruitcakes that took a good concept and turned it into some kind of joke.they are also hypocrites that kill more animals every year then they save. they have gone overboard on everything they have done.they make people who actually do care about animals look bad.

PETA is a disreputable organization. They do very little to really help animals. All they do is pull stupid stunts to encourage people to give them money. They also often take credit for animal rights advancements they had nothing to do with. Do some research on where the money really goes, you will see.

Because they don't know anything about the animals they think they know a lot about; e.g. livestock. I recently saw a "Go Vegan!" ad of theirs with a n illustration of a steer--they cannot even get the anatomy of the steer correct!

Because they do as much damage to the vegetarian cause as the Westboro Baptist Church does to Christianity. Both groups are zealots who twist information to suit their agendas.

They're the type who think Eco-terrorism is a justifiable means to save whales from Japanese fishermen.

because they are terrorists, they are capable of blowing up a burger king if they have to, and they also kill animals

Because they are all nut jobs. They kill jobs and threaten people. We are supposed to have meat in our diet. Have you ever smelt a vegetarians breath before. I rest my case

I'll let Penn Jillette say it for me: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l9ijLulwU…

Peta actually does kill animals, it is not a shelter and much like the HSUS it does not actually have much of anything to do with shelters. There's a reason that among the long list you can do for volunteering at Peta, working at one of their local shelters isn't one.

In reality, Peta is also against keeping animals in captivity at all. In the end, I think it would be lovely if we stopped this whole notion of pets altogether. Ingrid Newkirk, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, Newsday, Feb. 21, 1988

Let us allow the dog to disappear from our brick and concrete jungles–from our firesides, from the leather nooses and chains by which we enslave it. John Bryant, Fettered Kingdoms: An Examination of A Changing Ethic Washington People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, 1982, p. 15.

They support breed specific legislation, Newkirk herself basically saying that there are plenty of other breeds in the shelter more innocent and more in need of a home.

Another big issues is how controversial they are.

Handing out your "Mother"/Father" is kills animals pamphlets to elementary kids that include the front cover of a cartoon woman trying to slaughter a rabbit or a man knifing the guts of a living fish respectively. Complete with real pictures of animals that have been skinned.

They've said numerous times that even if research on animals could cure aids, they'd be against it.

Probably everything [PETA does] is a publicity stunt … we are not here to gather members, to please, to placate, to make friends. We’re here to hold the radical line. Ingrid Newkirk, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, USA Today, September 3, 1991.

Honestly, you don't have to dig very deep to start finding things that are very troublesome when it comes to Peta.
