approximately 17 days

It depends on how good the health of the person is to start with. An animal rights activist in the UK named Barry Horne went 68 days without food at one stage, but later on another hunger strike lasted only 15 days until he died.

Basically what happens is our body works through it's stored glucose, then breaks down fats. During this time, the brain is already under stress as it needs carbohydrates to survive. Once the fats are all used up down muscles are broken down and this is when the process becomes really dangerous. Even if an individual gets food at this stage, there can be permanent damage from the process.

20-30 days is when its OK, not great, but the body is surviving the none-eating period... after that, it will start borrowing its nutrition from organs.
Researchers say around 50-70 days (if you still have water).

You can look up on youtube fasting for 30 days and posting video updates on how they're doing. Its usually over weight people, but I have seen a few slim people do it for a detox.

You can live about 1 week with no food, but only a few days with no water. In your scenario, the person would be hooked up to an IV and be feed through a tube to bypass the problem.

Approx. 2-3 weeks.
