i want to go vegetarian, but my parents won't let me?!
does being a vegetarian mean that you'll lose weight?
i really can't stand eating meat, knowing what they've suffered needlessly because there is an alternative!

Let me start off by saying i love your avatar and I'm 5'4 108 pounds and I'm 13 years old and I became vegetsrian at 11. I'm perfectly healthy. I have enough energy for sports and school and I really do feel very energized and healthy. if you began cutting back on carbs you'll loose weight but replacing your serving of meat with eggs, veggie meats or other protein sources you'll be ok. My parents were concerned about my health and protein when I went veg at first but now they're very supportive. Tell them that eggs, milk, beans, cheese, yogurt, whole grains and greens all contain protein. Let's say you have cereal with milk or soy milk for brekfast or a soy meat and eggs and for lunch you have yogurt, whole grain crackers, a granola bar and a peanut butter sandwich and for dinner rice and beans you'll be fine. Tell them why your going vegetarian. Explain how you feel and what makes you not want to eat meat. Show them videos of factory farms on YouTube.
Hope this helps!.

You won't lose weight with a healthy vegetarian or vegan diet. Your parents don't know enough about nutrition. Show them the site govegan.com. Show them this site as well, because they probably think all vegans are anemic. Not so if one eats a healthy diet. http://www.vegan-nutritionista.com/vegan…
I don't know why cliff and so many other meat eaters bother answering, giving nutritional advice. He's eating BBQ chicken with BBQ sauce and I can see he's overweight in his face...
Anyway, most meat eaters are overweight and have no business giving nutritional advice. It's obvious Cliff hasn't tried a vegetarian or vegan diet, or he'd know a lot more about nutrition, and maybe actually eat something else besides chicken with fattening BBQ sauce.
You will lose weight IF you are either not eating a healthy vegan or vegetarian diet, or if you are overweight and start eating a healthy diet.
Listen to your parents, they know what's best for you. They love you and care about your health, that's why they want you to eat meat. Meat is very healthy as it is rich in many nutrients, including high-quality protein, iron, and vitamin B12.
Before attempting a vegetarian diet, read the articles that the vegetarians and vegans on here don't want you to see:

I've been vegetarian for the past 2 months and haven't lost weight. Of course, you probably would if you don't eat properly doing it.
& don't listen to the people who say .you won't get enough protein. If you eat well, you will get your protein. You can get protein from whole grains, nuts, seeds, legumes, eggs, dairy.. a few examples from around my kitchen are (though the amount will vary depending on the brand): 7g for 2 slices of bread, 13g for 1/4 tofu, 7g for 250mL soymilk. I could list more, but you weren't asking about protein, I just figured I'd mention it since others have been saying you need protein..

Vegetarian/vegan food pyramid + some info. I'm assuming you'll still be eating eggs/dairy if your parents end up letting you, so look under the lacto-ovo part (lacto = milk, ovo = eggs, wasn't sure whether you knew that yet or not)
nature is designed like that.
its called balance.
unless the animal you eat is endangered.
if your under 18.
you really need protein to grow and that found on red meat.
and proteins found on veggies are very few and insufficient for your body.
even if you eat tons of them.
there is really nothing wrong on eating meat.
and don't mind how they die.
because God knows whats happening.
good luck eat healthy and go green! :)
:)
You don't have to eat animals that suffer.
From the day they're born they're meant to be eaten, in most cases kept in tiny cages and fed wrong.
However there are certain places where you can make sure they were grass fed, roaming around on a field and humanely killed.
Personally I don't care, they were bread to die anyways (personal opinion).
It must be hard for you and I am sorry since you are a minor. I have made the choice recently to eliminate all meat. I used to eat little, but I am an adult so I can choose to eat what I want. Tell them to watch the movie Earthlings online. That might make them stop eating meat too. You can watch the trailer on U-tube.
Fruits and vegetables are very healthy however, you need protein. Check with your doctor about other ways you can obtain protein you need to keep you healthy.
There are a ton of great nuts and beans that can give you the nutrients you would be lacking in meat. You could explain that these have natural fat that your body needs.
I gained weight when I became a vegetarian , talk to her about alternatives such as qourn
