What's up with meat eaters?!

Question: What's up with meat eaters?
Okay I'm not talking about ALL meat eaters here (my bf, family, and all except one of my friends is a meat eater and I love them all to death)......

I went to an event the other night, and my colleague had bought up that I am a vegan, and her father who is diabetic and obese proceeded to lecture me about how unhealthy veganism is (my bloodwork is normal, I'm a marathon runner, my BMI is 20, my blood pressure is 105/55 last I checked) and he's questioning MY health? Other people appeared to agree with him and yet their not at all worried about his health? Poor guy is thisclose to a cardiac arrest and I'M unhealthy?

Just sayin....

Why is it that they are so concerned about vegans yet people are on the verge of cardiac arrests and diabetes and morbidly obese yet no one is concerned about their health, why the extreme backwards thinking?

I told him that I'm a marathon runner but thanks anyway for his concern, he said "Imagine how fit you'd be if you just added meat and dairy into your diet" HAH!

Nothing against overweight people, just the backwards thinking

Why didn't you just repeat to him what you just said about him being fat and out of shape and you being thin and healthy. I'm sure that would have shut him up.

Well he might not have been the best person to say it but he is right!
Vegans tend to be underweight.

Naturally you are meant to have protein in your diet.
I know you can get it from some things but some essential amino acids are only found in meat

Well, he might be insecure about his weight and maybe feels mad that he is overweight, so he is probably letting his anger out. And the people around him may have agreed with him because they feel sympathy for him because of his weight.

Me

i hate it when people lecture about how vegetarianism is unhealthy, because it very well IS if you do it right. eating meat can be unhealthy too. why do they get so upset when its not hurting them? i'll guess we'll never know lol.

I have friends who range from almost don't eat a vegetable to ones who are very strict vegans. I think if it is what works for you and makes you feel good/happy, then it really isn't anyone's business. I have been on the other side of that discussion with someone who did not really know me but was what I would call a radical vegan (wants to convert everybody). She proceeded to berate me for my omnivore diet. I'm not sure what it is that makes people think they know what's best for you, especially like this particular girl just looked very anemic and what I would consider underweight.

I think those well meaning but ill informed kinds of people need to mind their own business.

Fools come in all shapes and sizes, and all sorts of preferences as well. While I may not be either a vegan or a vegetarian, I can see the many health benefits of such a lifestyle. I know I lack the fortitude to get to the point of giving up meat entirely, because I like the stuff. I eat many vegetarian meals, and have learned to appreciate the delicate flavors and such associated with vegetarian meals, but I also appreciate a nice steak as well.
Most people lack the enlightenment to accept that they do not know everything. It is extremely difficult for most people to admit that your "fringe" behavior may actually be better than their mainstream behavior, especially if it means they have to admit their own faults.
For elegant proof simply look at your current president, who is unable to accept that his communist vision may be wrong for America, so he will shove it down your throat, just like that friend's father would shove a hamburger down your throat if they could actually catch you =)

Just opinion I'm afraid.

Shut up herbivore. Cow eat grass. Bird eat seed. Man no eat seed. Man no eat grass. Man eat meat.

Sounds like her father is a neanderthal...
