Why don't you go vegan?!
Answers:
I just wanted to clear up that in the Bible humans were meant to originally be vegetarians(vegans), and only after God saw the evil in men did he allow them to eat meat, after he killed most of them that is.
You have to understand that most vegans today were once omnivores as well. So you shouldn't look down on an omnivore as they may simply be a vegan in process. It's evolution. We have eaten meat for years and years. Whether this was healthy 1000 years ago is unknown, but a plant-based diet today is the healthiest. Eventually the omnivorous people will die off; as veganism is becoming more popular, unfortunately well before their time. One of my children has high cholesterol, and it bothers me to no end that he wont clean up his diet. The thought of me outliving my children keeps me up some nights. Something so simple to add years of healthy living to your life.
Also factor in that the meat and dairy industries are very good at what they do. We are in an age where we listen to whatever the tv tells us. There's a new gadget everyone needs, we all run out and buy it. There's a new weight loss program, everyone needs to try it. So it's no exception that dairy is considered healthy because we grow up being told that. It's sad that it's legal. Morally disgusting really. But it's true. Unfortunately most of the world believes that meat and dairy are healthy, and never think to question it.
The way you've posted this question wouldn't be how I would approach it though. Maybe it's the parent in me that just sees everyone as my child. But I try to convey the information without sounding like I'm accusing them of murder. I can show them all the facts, and answer any questions, but in the end it's their choice. It's fantastic that you've chosen a vegan lifestyle. I admire anyone who does what they can to minimize animal suffering. Don't let the negativity get you down. Veganism is still frowned upon by most people, as was everything else when it first started.
3 kids, med school professor, and 23 years of healthy vegan living
I think it would be better to become a vegetarian, rather than a vegan because when you become a vegan it becomes more difficult for your body to function properly because of the lack of nutrition. Your body needs certain foods and you are depriving it of them. You can use medicine though, to make up for it, but I think the healthiest choice is to become a vegetarian, if anything. God made animals for us to eat them. As long as you don't abuse animals, you are fine. Help your local animal abuse centre if you're really into caring for animals.
I'm vegan, but I understand why some aren't. First off, it's not easy in the beginning; especially if you love meat/milk/eggs/ect. It's something you have to stick to and get used to. If you don't have a good reason to go vegan, you most likely won't have the will power to stick to it.
Some don't feel like taking the time to research. Becoming a vegan requires great nutritional knowledge. Others don't feel like taking the time to check ingredients all the time and give up some of their favorite foods.
I'm a vegetarian. I went vegetarian for the animal cruelty reasons. I still consume egg and dairy products. It's hard enough to find vegetarian foods, let alone try and find full blown vegan foods. A lot of animal product alternatives are really hard to replace. I live with my parents and they buy the food, and it would make it hard for them to afford a vegan diet. Around where we live, you have to drive really far to get to Trader Joe's to get foods like that, or you have to pay top dollar at grocery stores for vegan foods.
When you go vegan, you need to find other sources to get your nutrients. If you can't do that, then you'll just end up being like those vegans who stop being vegan because they get sick and hospitalized. It's not all about just cutting all animal products out of your diet, but replacing what you get from animal nutrients with other sources. A lot of vegetarians and vegans fail to deal with getting nutrients.
Some people like meat. It is good, and no vegetable can substitute with the same taste. I know that it looks and sounds disgusting to you, but it sounds weird to us omnivours that you eat only veggies all day every day. Don't be offended, but if you are all alone on an island and all the fruits are gone, but there are random wild pigs everywhere I am pretty sure that sooner or later you will break down and eat one. Just a thought. you are just stronger than many other people to deprive yourself of this deliciousness.
i'm a vegetarian.
i wouldn't want to be a vegan. to me it seems like its going a bit too far, but maybe eventually i will be.
almost ALL animals naturally rely on each other. i dont have a problem with eating animals.. i have a problem with how they are killed and raised. the whole mass production is inhumane, and its easier to not eat meat than constantly hunt for 'free range' farms around you..i do sort of agree with you though..
and no, i dont agree with all tha bible bs with animals are mean to be eaten by us..thats TOTAL dribble. sorry if i offend anyone, but not really. BUT again, i cant think of a single animal that doesnt rely of another animal for SOMETHING.
I don't make excuses. An excuse would mean I'm doing something wrong, I'm Not. I don't hire people to kill animals, I kill them myself. Do You Plant, and Harvest, ALL the food you eat??? No you do Not! Why should people that eat meat do it all themselves?? You Don't!
Don't you understand Nature? In nature animals either kill for food or get killed for food. Its natures way. Deal with it.
I understand you're point and the reason why I am not a vegan is because no matter how much I beg them my parents will not let me go vegan. It's sweet and simple. You should support the PETA if you would like to convince people to become vegans.
I am a vegan :)
It's not hard at all, I feel awesome knowing that I can eat a healthy diet (even healthier than eating dead animals) and not contribute to the torturing of innocent animals.
Because I like to eat real food.
I also have a real life with real problems. Not spending my days worried about a cow and their "feelings"....
You asked.
Trick question, I already am vegan.
Because meat eggs and dairy taste ******* delicious.
I don't want to.
Vegetarian since birth
I went vegan over 25 years ago, and am still vegan. You're preachin' to the choir here. :-)
I don't want to be...now excuse me while i go eat some ribs ok?
I'll do it! I love challenges ;)
You know what looks tasty? Kim's (a.k.a. Timid Women Rarely Make History) two children. I'm getting hungry now!
1) in the bible - man cannot live on bread alone
2) tastes goooooood
3) vegan diets lose a lot of important nutrients
4) your not going convince everyone in the world to go vegan, so the animals being killed will carry on, so their deaths should not be in vein (but instead in some tasty sauces, like barbecue, or mayo)
5) I don't want to
