is there a name for vegans who eat fish?!

Question: Is there a name for vegans who eat fish?
me and my friend are both vegan and yesterday he said he was going to start eating fish because the only reason hes a vegan is because of the way they treat animals in the meat and dairy industry but with fish they just catch and kill them. he still doesnt eat egg or dairy products. he just eats fish so i was wondering if there was a name for that?
im also thinking about doing the same thing but if theres any reason to why i shouldnt eat fish please tell me. thanks

Answers:

If you eat fish you are not considered vegan. The definition of vegan is someone who eats NO animal or dairy products at all. Fish are a living creature.
For reasons to not eat fish read this page about the horrible fishing industry http://www.peta.org/issues/animals-used-…

The proper name is pescatarian. The only meat you eat is fish. My family are pescatarians, we live on the coast and grow our own food, and fish is plentiful. :)

Pescatarian : Occasionally used to describe those who abstain from eating all meat and animal flesh with the exception of fish. Although the word is not commonly used and a pescatarian is not technically a vegetarian, more and more people are adopting this kind of diet, usually for health reasons or as a stepping stone to a fully vegetarian diet. Pescetarians often believe that moderate consumption of fish or fish oils, which are high in Omega-3 fatty acids, is necessary for optimum health, although vegetarian alternatives, such as flax seed oil, are available.

For a fish (in this example, a yellowfin tuna), being caught and dragged out of the water into the air probably feels like you might feel if you were suddenly transported from sea level to about 10 miles above sea level with your head trapped in a fishbowl full of water. I don't know about your friend, but that doesn't sound humane to me, actually it sounds pretty unpleasant. If your friend is okay with that, though, I suppose he could call himself a strict pescatarian.

I'm vegan, aside from using some animal fibers (no silk, fur, leather or Merino wool, but most anything else I'm fine with).

Someone who isn't a true vegetarian or vegan. I don't understand how fish could still be considered okay to eat if they're vegan/vegetarian. Fish is an animal, and when it is killed and eaten, it is considered a dead animal. Vegetarians and vegans are not supposed to eat fish.

a vegan who eats fish is no longer a vegan. a vegetarian who eats fish is a peacatarian. vegans do not eat ant animal products. it's not about how it's killed you are eating a dead animal vegans don't even eat honey because it comes from an insect. and the bee didn't even have to die!

Hi there. There is no special name for a diet like that.
I think he should learn a bit about the fishing industry before making that decision. I would disagree that its a simple as "they just catch them and kill them".

There is not such thing as a vegan who eats fish. At best he would be a pescatarian. A vegan abstains from all animal flesh and animal by products. Regardless of your friend's reasoning, fish are still animals.

Vegans who eat fish are called "omnivores." It's fine to have beliefs which influence your behavior, but it is NOT okay to refer to those beliefs using definitions of lifestyles to which one does not confirm.

I understand the ethical difference, but fish from the sea have heavy metals like mercury, and farm fish are crowded and full of antibiotics.

Yes: omnivores.
Btw, if he really thinks "with fish they just catch and kill them", tell your friend to actually do some research.

vegan :D

Yes, they're called omnivores.

Non-veagans

"Posers" or "people who just don't get it at all".

He is considered no more vegan, but that doesn't really make a difference to label him; however, as many vegans strongly beleive it's bad to eat animal products; I find it different when it comes to fish, because their limbic system is undeveloped enough to feel the pain, rendering them edible. But the broad generalisation of what is animal and what is not is human based rather than nature based. if it is up to me to call your friend something, I will pat on his shoulder and say '' hello Fishegan''

No there's not. Vegans don't eat fish. Eating fish is very good though.

Read the articles that the vegetarians and vegans here don't want you to see:

Fish is good, being vegan actually has some downsides I believe it's vitamin b12 that you cannot get being a vegan and you need it so eating fish is good. It's called being a Pescatarian.
