I worked in restaurants for many years and some of my duties was to prepare chips (french fries, call it what you what!), in some I had to peel the potatoes myself, in others we had big bags of chips ready cut. Till this point we all agree that chips are 100% potatoes !
Ok, now here's the tricky bit !
You fry the chips in the same fryer you fry non vegan thing, such as some particular meat-balls, fish fingers, shrimps, cod ... however, a lot of fish, I just can't remember all the types.
Depending by the restaurant, the oil in the fryer gets changed once a week (when it turns black!!!).
I'm not vegan, but I'm vegetarian. However, I'm not a chips lover, neither a deep fried food passionate.
I wouldn't be so hostile anyway !
Maybe ask your family to take you to a restaurant where they've got a large menus, you know, check on internet what are the best voted restaurant in you city by vegans and vegetarians.
Learn to eat salads, some fried vegetable rice, some tufu grills, cous cous ....
There is a vast variety of delicious food out there ! You don't know what you are missing.
maybe you can inspire your family to eat more fresh vegetables and less fat-smelly-meat.
Honestly, eat less potatoes and be open mind for all vegetables !
I became vegetarian at 10. I don't know how old you are, probably old enough to make up your mind.
However, avoid MacDonalds and awful restaurant like that ... by the way , who the hell call the restaurants ???

Depends on the restaurant -- just ask your waiter or waitress :) They'll be happy to answer for you. They want to please their costumers so if you ask, they will 99.99% most likely be able to whip you up something vegan in the kitchen, that's not on the menu, just for you. I'm vegan and I used to think it was hard to eat at restaurants. Now, when I sit down, I politely explain to the waiter that I don't consume "meat, dairy, or eggs for ethical reasons" and they will usually offer a substitute dish.

Never feel like you can't go somewhere just because you're vegan. Most restaurants, even fast food places like Taco Bell, Starbucks, Chipotle, Panera Bread, jimmy Johns, 7/11, Noodles and Company, Subway, etc - have vegan options!

Of course french fries are Vegan made of Potato but ... Restaurants uses same things to fry Chicken, Beef, Pork etc and dip fries in them ,,, Its hard to go in a restaurants and find things which are made of pure things ,,, Example if you ask for a sandwich they will use the same thing they used to saute beef or pork and upto some extent you will find tiny pieces of pork or beef in your Veg Sandwich ... The best thing to eat is buy Veg patties, Vet hot dogs, Veg salami's etc from Super market ,,, Good Luck !!! Best answer .... thanks ... Shaun

You should check this website before you go out to eat:

That can tell you what vegan options are at the restaurant you're going to. And don't forget to get creative with your order if you want :P

Sense no one cooks in lard any more the French Fries are, the question you need to ask of the restaurant is do they cook anything else in the Fry vat(meat).

If they're baked on site, they're vegan. If they're deep fried it depends on whether they use animal oil or vegetable oil. You'll have to ask at each restaurant.

Depends on the oil they are fried in. Some fries are fried in animal fat and lard

it depends. and you can out cause a lot of restaurants have vegan options.

Some french fries have fillers such as lactose(milk) in them. Check with the company who made them to find out.

i heard that McDonalds werent.. i really dont know though.
