Transition from lacto-ovo vegetarian to vegan...?!
Answers:
You will feel a lot more energetic and your immune system will be a lot more resistant to sickness when you go from vegetarian to vegan. Skipping milk products helps eliminate excess mucus production in your body, and so you don't catch cold or flu easily, nor do you get sick easily. At least that has been my experience. What makes you think that you will be more fatigued, that's not true at all. Make sure you eat a lot of fruits (50% of your calories should come from fruits), then you will have tons of energy. I am not a strict vegan, I rarely have some yogurt, but am vegan on most days of the week.
I was only vegetarian for maybe nine months before I went vegan.
The transition wasn't hard, and I felt a lot healthier and had more energy once I did.
I think I was just excited about going vegan though, ha :) And, no, I didn't struggle with fatigue.
Went...
vegetarian: summer 2009, age 13.
vegan: March 2010, age 14.
And I will be turning fifteen this March.
I went vegan after about 6 months of being ovo-vegetarian (I'm allergic to dairy and had been off it for several years at the time). It was relatively easy, and I didn't have any issues with fatigue. Just make sure you replace your sources of calcium and vitamin D -- fortified plant milks should do the trick. You're cutting out a couple of sources of protein, too, so make sure you're careful to get enough. Here's a page on vegan protein sources: http://www.vrg.org/nutrition/protein.htm
I was an omnivore before I went vegan. If you're vegetarian already, I don't think you'll have the same detoxification experience that I did. My first three days, I was a bit tired and achy. It sort of felt like I had the flu. I started feeling a lot better by the end of the week though.
Have you found some good vegan cookbooks yet? My favorites are "The Kind Life", "The Happy Herbivore", and (my most favorite of all) "1000 Vegan Recipes". You can find these on Amazon for good prices. :3
I stopped getting headaches and strep throat when I went vegan.
My health has improved majorly since I became a low-fat raw vegan, eating mostly fruit as well as leafy greens vegetables. My skin is wonderfully soft, my skin has stopped breaking out, and my acne is gradually going away. While I used to get depressed or get stuck in a bad mood, now the difficult emotions come and go smoothly and I find it much easier to remain in a positive state of mind. I have more energy; I feel sleepy at the end of the day but I never feel "tired." Fatigue is a thing of the past. If you want a way of eating that will make a surprising level of health possible, then check out foodnsport.com or raw-food-health.net, or read The 80/10/10 Diet.
Fatigue from no cheese or eggs? Nope. In fact I like soymilk and cheese better and it gives you a cleaner taste in your mouth.
There is more protein in soy than cow milk anyway.
I went from omnivore to vegan about a month ago I'm having no trouble at all, I feel fine. The only thing that's hard is when I bake I need to make sure the recipe I'm using doesn't call for eggs or milk. weeeeee
stay vegetarian...
who cares if you have a little bit of milk/cheese from nao and then??
:D
vegetarian all my life
