A close friend of mine became a vegetarian and has become sick because of it!?!

Question: A close friend of mine became a vegetarian and has become sick because of it!?
Recently, one of my friends decided to go vegetarian. This was 3 months ago. Just yesterday his relative called me asking to come to the hospital. He was apparently just at his home relaxing when he just fell on the floor and started having convulsions, as his relative described it. He had always been healthy and has had regular checkups from the doctor. There shouldn't have been anything wrong with him, until his new vegetarian diet. You dumb vegetable lovers caused this! He even told me it was a vegetarian who made him turn this way! I'M AS MAD AS HELL! He was a best friend! You bastards better give me some explaining! What caused this!?

Nonsense. As a troll, you suck.

If its because of his diet, then thats his stupid fault. It is not at all difficult to have a healthy vegetarian diet. Maybe he was just eating cheese and processed crap food all day....his fault.
But it might not even be his diet.

Before you try and get a rise out of people why don't you stop being ignorant and do your research. If you did, you would know that there is absolutely nothing wrong with a vegan diet, let alone a vegetarian one. Some countries pretty well rely on one! I am sorry to hear about your close friend, but them becoming vegetarian was not the problem. Please stop being rude. If you do not agree with a non meat life that is fine but at least get your facts straight because right now you are just coming off as a very rude and uneducated person.

Don't get so mad at people who choose this way of life. Many time's when you choose this why of life it is the protein that is missing.Just because you don't eat meat doesn't mean that you can not eat cheese, beans, soy, and other products that are on the market. Also never forget the fruits. You're friends condition may be because he did not eat properly. But I wouldn't take it out on all vegetarians. And I would get a second opinion on his condition. He may well have some other ailment.

I'm sorry to hear that. But it definitely sounds like your friend either had some kind of underlying medical condition not related to vegetarianism, ate a completely unbalanced diet, or simply didn't eat enough. Both vegetarians and omnivores can be unhealthy if they only eat junk food and never try to balance their meals.

No im not a vegetarian i do love meat. But if he wanted to be a vegetarian he had to check to see what foods he had to replace meat with or he wont get those nutrients. If this was the reason obviously he his body didnt react well to this kind of change. There are many ppl that are doing great being vegetarians but u have to know what ur doing. Hopefully your friend gets better soon.

Dude, it's his ******* fault. If he kept up getting proper nutrients from plant sources that make up for what meat has, then this wouldn't have happened. I've been a vegetarian 5 years and something like that hasn't happened to me.

People got to realize they need to give themselves proper nutrients, whether you consume meat or not.

Perhaps he only knew what to avoid but was clueless about what he should eat. I've been a vegetarian since I was 14, I'm 20 now; it has worked miracles for me. I have had milk products but no eggs. And now I'm trying to turn vegan. I hope your friend recovers completely and does his research on nutrition. If not, it's his choice.

He wasn't doing it right. That or it's some health problem that he's had for a while and the change of diet sparked something. And you say we're dumb, but we're the healthier ones.

Well, its his fault! He obviously ate crap, instead of eating healthy, and you should stop blaming everyone else because of your friends problem!

I know a vegetarian who is the HEALTHIEST PERSON ON EARTH!

Sorry to hear about your friend, but this is a really absurd question. I suggest you get a sound medical opinion about your friend's underlying condition instead of jumping to conclusions.

Trollface.

Have you ever considered that this might not be related to his diet?

Nice trolling. I got a good laugh out of it. :)

They will do tests on him, and determine what the cause of this episode was.

Even if it has to do with being malnourished, everyone has to take personal responsibility for their own health. Meaning just because you call yourself a vegetarian, doesn't mean you're getting all the zinc, protein, iron, vitamin B12, vitamin B6, calcium, omega 3 fatty acids, vitamin D, or riboflavin you need. He needs to care for himself and make sure he's getting what he needs. Being slim or not gaining weight are not indicators of good health; in some respects, good health is not visble by the naked eye. You can have clear skin, a fresh face, be energetic, be at a healthy weight, and other things, and STILL be unhealthy. One of my friends looked like one of the fittest people you'd ever seen; you'd think she went to the gym 5x a week and was a health nut. In truth, her metabolism allowed her not to gain weight while she ate fast food, junk food, etc, most of her days.

You can eat an omnivorous diet and STILL not be getting everything you need!!! So, very likely if he IS malnourished, he would have been malnourished whether he was vegetarian or eating omnivorously, because he still wouldn't have been adequately caring for his health.

And remember, this episode may have NOTHING to do with his diet. It may not be malnutrition. It may be something else that is TOTALLY unrelated to his diet. So don't get mad and start making accusations before you know the facts. And even if he was a YA! user, it was still HIS CHOICE to become a vegetarian.
