Yummy vegetarian foods?!

Question: Yummy vegetarian foods?
I was raised eating meat and grew a strong dislike for veggies or fruit.(Other than potatoes.) I am convinced to become a vegetarian but im not willing to force myself to eat something I hate the taste of.Any advice on some foods that DON'T taste like veggies, but that has them in it?

Hi Harley,

I understand your wanting TASTY vegetarian foods - I don't like bland food.

Years ago, I decided to become a vegetarian, but knew I had to make sure my diet was balanced and I knew it also had to be tasty, or I wouldn't last the distance.

I have a lot of recipes which I have put into Word so that I can run them off for my clients whenever I need to. My email address is included in my profile - if you'd like me to email them to you, let me know (just thought I'd better point out there's no charge to this, just sharing what I can).

I can also give you the names of quite a few really good vego cookbooks.

I'm a Naturopath - I've researched this over many years

I used to live on fried Ramen. Cook the Ramen noodles like normal, but drain them and stir fry them in a pan with a pat of butter and swirl some soy sauce in there. Not too much, and don't have it too often 'cuz soy sauce is high in sodium, but its a great 5-minute meal.

Morningstar is a great line of vegetarian fake meat. Their corn dogs are awesome, as well as the chicken nuggets stay away from the fake bacon and veggie burgers, they taste awful. Boca burger is an awesome veggie burger, Even Johnny Rockets uses them for their veggie burger. Mushrooms are a great way to add a "meaty" flavor to a meal. I like Criminis or "baby bellas" they're flavorful but still mild and great sauteed with a little margarine and garlic.

If you're a vegetarian and not a vegan, eggs are still in the green zone. commercially sold chicken eggs are unfertilized so it is NOT a chicken embryo. Boiled eggs are a great source of protein so try to incorporate them in somewhere.

Experiment with different veggies and fruits you haven't tried before, you may be surprised.

First off, congratulations on wanting to try a vegetarian diet. Yes, veggies are big part of it but there A LOT of recipes you should try that have veggies. Getting some cookbooks that offer vegetarian recipes is a good idea, even if they are from the library or internet. Just getting a feel for it will help you to create what you want to eat. Try a butternut squash( you can buy it in a can or frozen OR fresh) ravioli with butter sauce (try Earth Balance) or tomato sage sauce. Look it up or go check out the Skinny ***** cook book from Rory Freedman. <<think that is the right spelling. Also, try bean stew , spaghetti , or chinese, thai food.

Try making homemade soup! It has many other ingredients that you can buy to add in for flavor to distract from it! Also salads have many low-fat, low-calorie (in proportion) dressings that make it not even taste like salad. Also, burritos you can put black beans, cheese, salsa, lettuce, peppers, olives, tomatoes, etc. in them and not even taste it over the cheese. The best recipe though is cheesy carrots: chopped up baby carrots in a pan mixed with onions and water that have been sauteed, sprinkled with cubes of Velveeta cheese and crushed original potato chips...then baked in the oven and enjoyed:)

My healthy, high veggie diet

There is so many alternatives for vegans out there. It has become easier and easier for vegans to buy tasty vegan products. At your local grocer you will find an assortment of vegan burgers, 'chik' patties, ground meat like veggies. The best resource I can give you is Vegweb.com. I use this one alot. Many, many, many delicouse vegan recipies on it. You will be very surprised. Good luck although I know you wont need it after visiting this site!

hey, i'm vegetarian myself and have been for about.. 2 years?
my favourite vegetarian meals would probably be:
-quorn chicken fajitas.
-vegetable salad
-quorn burgers
-potato salad(meat free.. obviously)

NOTE: quorn can be expensive but it just tastes the same as normal meat except made with different.. things?

V8 fusion is a delicious drink with fruit and veggies..tastes like fruit. There are flavors like mango.:) but it's packed with sugar :P
Smart bacon is soy bacon...I fry some up with my vegan pancakes and they are somewhat healthy.
Veginase is mayonnaise without the eggs.

Veggie burgers are very tasty and they can be bought at almost any store, I recommend the boca brand
