There is no 'formula' for protein. There are many proteins, however, and your body makes them as needed from amino acids.

I'll answer from a vegetarian perspective, since this is the category we're in. There are 8 essential amino acids (AA's) - which means that every other amino acid and any protein can be made AS LONG AS your body has access to those 8 essential AA's all at the same time. (Think of it a bit like making a chocolate cake - if you have all the necessary cake ingredients, but no chocolate, you can make a 'cake', but not a 'chocolate cake' - back to AA's, if your body needs to make an antibody for something and you're one AA short, you can't make that particular antibody at that particular time).

Animal protein (including dairy products and eggs) is a 'complete protein' - which means it has all of the 8 essential amino acids, so a non-vegetarian or a lacto-ovo vegetarian will probably not have a protein deficiency (or more accurately, an AA deficiency).

Many plants, however, are rich in several of the essential amino acids, but low (or missing altogether) one/some of the others. This is how vegetarians can be at risk of protein deficiency. What needs to happen to make sure that all the essential amino acids are available to them, they need to combine foods in their meals so that they get all the essential amino acids. Good combo's are:

Grains & Legumes - Grains & Nuts/Seeds - Grains & Dairy
Nuts/Seeds & Legumes - Dairy & Legumes - Nuts/Seeds & Dairy

I'm a Naturopath - vegetarian for 10 years, vegan for 2 yrs

Proteins are made of sequences of amino acids. There are I think 20 different amino acids. They are large and complex compounds. BTW this was a terrible choice of category for this question. You should really pay more attention to what you're doing.
