What creature does lard come from?!

Question: What creature does lard come from?
Does it come from different sources?

Answers:

Lard is from hogs (pigs or swine ) what ever you want to call them. It is rendered ( cooked down ) then the oil is cooled back to the point it becomes a solid again, and is now known as " lard " Great for pie crust, but not good for the cholesterol level

lard comes from pig fat... period.

there are similar substances from plants (usually called shortening) and even tallow (cows or sheep)

Lard, by definition, is from pigs.
Specifically: "The white solid or semisolid rendered fat of a hog."

True lard comes from pigs. Sometimes products labeled 'lard' have other fats in them as well, so read labels carefully if you want pure lard.

Then again, as this is the veggie board, maybe not.

Animal lard usually comes from pigs.

Lard sold in supermarkets comes from swine
