AM I MALNOURISHED?????? PLEASE HELP?!

Question: AM I MALNOURISHED?????? PLEASE HELP?
So, i'm a 5'9 17 year old that weighs 140. In the past 10 months i've lost 20 pounds without trying. I've been a vegetarian for almost 3 years, lacking much protein. I don't eat vegetables and i don't get more than 6 grams of protein in a day. There are a lot of symptoms i have, but what are the chances of me actually being malnourished and what can i do to help that? THANKS

Quit looking at height and weight so much. Your goal should be to be a healthy person. You need more protein than that.

Hi dear,

You so called vegetarian diet is very unhealthy...
Don't mark my words as an offence:
How are you a vegetarian when you don't eat vegetables at all ?
By looking at those sample of food you eat, it's no wonder that you are worried that you are malnourished. You need to start planning your diet now and make a healthier change.
I'm just as young as you, a 17 year old vegan and i took it seriously since i started young and i will put my 100% effort to it.

Start introducing vegetables into your diet, even if you dislike eating vegetables. Your fruit servings seem alright with me. Consume more grain products. Curb your junk food cravings by replacing it with fruit bars, apple or a salad. Read and research on your own on the internet.

And trust me, as long as you make a healthier change into your diet you have no problem obtaining sufficient protein for your body. Vegans don't even have much problem with protein needs, let alone a vegetarian.
If you think time and effort is a constraint to your lifestyle right now then you might want to consider going back to your normal diet before as a vegetarian.

Hope that helps. Health is wealth.

According to a BMI calculator, you have a normal BMI, but that doesn't really tell me anything. If you haven't been getting enough nutrients and protein, then chances are that you are somewhat malnourished. What you need to do is first see your doctor, and then start eating vegetables! They are essential to get enough vitamins and minerals, and not just for vegetarians, but everyone, ESPECIALLY vegetarians.

You need to get to a doctor, pronto. You aren't eating enough of anything. It sounds to me like you are using vegetarianism as an excuse not to eat (as in an eating disorder). 6 grams of protein a day? If you are eating enough calories, you would actually have to TRY to get that little protein. Heck, I wouldn't have the patience.

Your overall weight is not staggering, I am 16 5'3" and weigh 100. I would recommend adding a scoop of peanut butter to your cheerios. It is actually tasty. Also, I hate vegetables and I just down 32 oz of V8 low sodium juice every mourning. Then I am done with vegetables for the rest of the day. Then I would snack on almonds too. Smear peanut butter on cookies and eat greek yogurt with fresh fruit added instead of pudding. It would also be nice to know your beverage intake.

Your weight is normal. I am about the same. But why are you eating so unhealthy? You need to be eating a LOT of fruits and veggies if you are vegetarian. Don't worry about protien, you can get that from avocado, peanut butter, lentils etc. But eat a lot of fruits and veggies. You don't need more than 20 grams of protien if you are a grown adult (56g as advertised as needed per day is too much protein IMO). But eat healthy for God's sake.

hun, it sounds like you know EXACTLY what you need to do---you need to be responsible with your diet!! here are vegan sources of protein:

and i recommend taking a multivitamin until you start following a more responsible diet (its not for protein, its for everything else it sounds like youre lacking.)

You know that you''re not eating a healthy diet. Only you can fix it. Medical professionals recommend a balanced diet for humans: some meat, a variety of veggies, some fruit, cut back on sugar and refined car bs (cheerios). You get one body to last you throughout your lifetime. If you don't take care of it now, it won't take care of you in your old age. Calcium for growing bones is a very serious issue.

OMG, your diet is not vegetarian at all! You might cause yourself some harm if you continue this way... Anyway, you made the first step by recognizing that there might be a problem with your diet. All you have to do now is treat your body with some love and give it healthy and nutritional food;)
try to follow these veggie meal plans: http://bit.ly/bestveggiemealplans it helped me a lot when I was starting with vegetarianism. Good luck!

You keep eating like this, and you will definitely wind up in the hospital, among other awful things. People usually don't realize just how important eating healthy food is. These vitamins restore your body. My grandfather ate like you....granted, he's a lot older...but within a year...his kidney's shut down. The doctor said it was due to his poor nutrition. (He lived on little debbie cakes, ice cream, salad, Banquet Spaghetti and apples)

If you're getting enough calories (from whole food; not junk food) you're getting enough protein(see protein myths). But are you getting enough calories? You need 2-3 thousand a day.

And for your health, at least have some lettuce: romaine, red leaf, spinach,,,

You should be eating at least 70-90 grams of protein a day. Eat beans, peas, lentils.

Well, you don't eat meat or vegetables...what DO you eat? You definitely need more protein though. It's important.

holy crap less than 6 grams? eat some peanut butter i get like 50+ grams a day.

Eat meat.
