Your reason(s) for being vegetarian or vegan? or, your top reasons ?!

Question: Your reason(s) for being vegetarian or vegan? or, your top reasons ?
Ethical? Moral? religious? Environmental? Dietary (-more healthy)? Dietary (weight loss)? Dietary (dislike meat/seafood/etc)? Family-pressure / your parents made you veg/vegan? Pressure from family/friends? A fad / what's "hip" right now? A way to rebel? Other? To end world hunger? Economical (against people making a living by murder/torture)? Biological (not what we're meant to eat biologically)? A personal experience? Medical (a condition you have or are at risk for)? Other (please state)?

Like OMG, I like totally saw this totally rad video on YouTube from PETA, and like OMG how can people be so cruel to the cute little chickens and piggies? I just want to scream and pee my pants every time I see them, they're so CUTE!

Once I started doing some research on vegetarianism and the horrors of factory farming, it just became really nauseating to try and choke down flesh. Because that's what it is and how I thought of it. I also read about all the benefits and since I'm really into prevention, that appealed to me. I've never enjoyed the taste of eggs - yuck. So that wasn't difficult. But I was a cheese lover. But after more reading and research into dairy farming, environmental issues, etc. I decided that my love for a taste wasn't a good enough reason to keep eating something so negative. The hormones and anti-biotics that the industry puts in meat and dairy is just sickening to think about. I'm really into cooking and trying new things so I've been very pleased with all the vegan substitutes I've found.

Vegan

Personally, the main reason I'm a vegetarian for the health benefits and to do my part to end suffering for animals. It is also a way to help the environment, as the meat industry is a major source of carbon emissions and pollution.

It can be difficult to stay motivated, but the following link there are more details about how I stay motivated to become vegetarian:

At the moment, I'm gradually working on becoming a vegetarian. My goal is to eventually become vegan. Having solid reasons help me a lot. I've lost some weight from my efforts to gradually become vegetarian, particularly once I completely stopped consuming both beef and poultry. However, my main reasons are to support animal rights and to enjoy the many health benefits.

Thanks for asking! I love sharing my reasons for deciding to become vegetarian with others.

I never liked the way meat felt in my body. It felt wrong. I am flesh and eating the same flesh- all wrong.

It's fatty and has animal sweat and blood throughout it- for me that just sounds and feels wrong.
The taste of blood is not that appealing, and that is indeed what I taste. Even chicken or fish, you taste the same urea and acids that your own body is made from.

It has instinctively never felt right. However I ate meat for 14 years.

Now I've not eaten meat a while, the health aspects are so clear.
Farming is the most barbaric practice that humans do, I can't believe the utter DENAIL that meat eaters have about factory farming.
No meat eater wants to see Meet Your Meat, yet that all know that is how meat gets to their mouth.

This denial has never ever left me, I just do not understand how great the power of denial can be, seeing as all the people who watch this video and other like it, are appalled. They all know this is the norm , too, and not just one farm somewhere.

I'm vegetarian because it makes me feel really great if I don't eat meat for ages.
Also for dietary reasons - it is healthier.
Furthermore, I think it is wrong to kill animals just for human enjoyment/pleasure. I mean, there are plenty of other good foods out there, and it's not like we actually need meat in our diet!

Well to me eating Vegan is very healthy as it comes from the soil ... also human beings nowadays are becoming very very cruel to animals just for making money ... They show no mercy on them ... I have seen so many Videos that I can't feel like eating Meat anymore .. but I quit eating meat when I was 8 as one day my father asked me lets go buy some goat meat I said yes and he said are you sure you wanna come I said yes why ? He didn't replied me and took me to the meat market where I saw all these poor lambs and goats cut infront of me and skins hanging, head on the floor body parts here and there ... Yucks !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I thought we were going to a field like Corn, Rice or Wheat ,,, thats what I use to think goat meat come from ... I was a kid anyways ... Its been 20 yrs now I don't eat meat anymore ... I am glad .. thanks ... Best vote for my answer, thanks ... Shaun

I saw a few clips of videos in slaughterhouses before I turned vegetarian, and couldn't handle watching even a few seconds (I had to turn them off). I found it forced me to think about what I was eating, and I came to the conclusion that I'm not comfortable with the fact that an animal had to die to be on my plate.

have you ever been to a slaughter house?

They knock the animal out (horse or cow for instance) with a GIANT metal thing until they are out cold.. then they slit the throat to drain the blood.. they slide the meat chunks across the filthy floor (not cleaned at all) then unto conveyor belts --- it's DISGUSTING and unsanitary.

do you know what they put in your meat? Chemicals upon chemicals; water and more water

Wal Mart changes the experation dates to give it more time to sell.

Mainly the animals. I don't like how they treat them. Also for my health. After I eat meat, i think about how they killed that animal and now it is going through my stomach. And, i'm fine with farming. I just don't like farms where they kill the animals (ex. cows, chickens, pigs)

I do not beleive we have the right to end one's life that he/she deserves to live to continue our existence. I do not beleive in cruelty to animals or humans is right. To end world hunger would be great too... :)

Empathy...

Mainly animal rights but also health, because I think we weren't designed to eat meat, plus it's cheaper and I don't even like the taste of meat to begin with.

It's murder, and i own chickens so i don't feel right eating it. But i eat eggs and milk and stuff so i amn't vegan .

Mostly moral, but also dietary (healthy) and environmental.

Dietary.

empathy. but there are PLENTY of reasons to be vegan

Just not killing animals... I don't want anyone to suffer because of me if I can avoid it.
