I'm a vegetarian, because I don't want to eat meat, nor do I need to eat meat to live a happy and healthy life.

Vegetarian since birth

The only moral objection I have to meat production is the state that some of the animals are kept in before being slaughtered. If the meat industry was more respectful toward the lives of the animals before taking them, I don't think I would care really. It is killing, but I don't personally believe hunting/humane meat is immoral.

Being a vegetarian (or very low-meat omnivore) is far better for your health than eating meat frequently. It slashes your risk of heart disease and various cancers, lowers your cholesterol, blahblahblah... the list is long, and you can find it in a million places with a google search.

Aside from that, for me, it's sort of a step back from the poor decisions society has made concerning meat. In times gone by, vegetables, beans, grains, etc. were always the main component of making a meal and meat was used sparingly (which, as you may remember from your food pyramid in grade school, it should be). Now meat has taken over to such an extent that Americans could eat so much less meat and still be just as (if not MORE) healthy.

Going off of eating less meat, everyone should read this list:

I would say that those are my reasons for not eating meat. I don't care if people DO eat meat... for the reason above, I just with they would back off a little :)

im not a vegetarian, i like meat too much but i sometime want to be. i don't like the idea of eating an animal really. i have a cat and i couldn't think of eating her, and i always think what if i liked that chicken?! would i still eat it?! and of course the answer is no.. but i would always eat a cow. i could never have a cow as a loved pet.

It breaks my heart to see how sheep and cattle are transported on our Australian and New Zealand roads. Pigs and chickens are also often badly treated. Why would I allow that to continue? I refuse to be part of creating pain for an animal. If friends and family want to eat meat I have no problem with that. I am not a person that throws my views in the faces of others. It is something I choose to do and have done for 20 something years.

I got tired of rotisserie chicken steak and tilapia so i started going for the vegetarian section in our dorm cafeteria, and it kind of stuck. If i ever want meat, I'll eat it. I just havennt had it in a long time.
