I don't think so..

Vegetarian since birth

You could use all the false vegan propaganda to back up that everyone should be brought up as a vegetarian. And you have come to the right section, this place is full of false vegan claims as you can see by nicks ridiculous answer. His source is a vegan website. He and other vegans believe everything they read on these websites.

But in reality everyone cannot become vegetarians. Many people on this planet don't have access to grocery stores, and even if they did they have no money to buy food. They also can't grow food. The combination of bad soil/climate, no money, corrupt governments, distribution problems and other factors contribute to world hunger. To these people affected buy any of these problems it is impossible to become vegetarians. They have to eat whatever they can find just to survive, even if its a stray cat they caught. Tell someone that hasn't eaten in 3 days that they shouldn't eat meat. Other people like myself that can afford food simply just don't want to be vegetarians. I and many other people believe eating animals is as natural as breathing air.

Parents should be advised by their health visitor and doctor about what foods are best for their children. The medical profession and most doctors admit a vegetarian diet is healthier and prevents many illnesses and it is beneficial to growth and avoiding childhood obesity. Schools should make children more aware of what is in their food and how to recognise bad foods and healthy foods.Parents should be given the opportunity to attend cooking classes and learn how to cook healthy meals for their family. If people are better educated then it will help them to decide what they really want to put in the mouths of their children. It is impossible to turn everyone vegetarian but if peopld are made more aware of how unhealthy eating meat is then they can make a more educated decision and childhood obesity would be less of a problem and we would be raising healthier generations.

By the looks of it, some people think vegetables are a luxury and animals are commonplace. That's definitely backwards. A simple fact is that if we lived like every other animal on the earth, we wouldn't use weapons that we made. Everyone would be a vegan, or at most a scavenger feeding on animals that were already killed. No one can walk up to a wild animal and milk it or strangle it, which would be the only way of killing an animal if we lived in the wild and lived off nature. Murdering an animal isn't any different than murdering a person, in both cases a life is unwillingly lost. I think the world would be a much better place if people actually attempted to stop murder. Another point is animals have to eat too. A cow doesn't think 'well getting plants to eat is so hard! I guess I'll just start eating animals.' No, plants are everywhere (or naturally would be everywhere). Plus vegetarianism or veganism is healthier for the body and the environment. There is no way of logically justifying omnivorism and I do think a veg*n world would be better.

My views + common sense

It is very scary how most comments on here are quick to jump on the fact that not everyone can be vegan and that animals are easier to live off of than fruits , vegs, etc. Whatever you believe , please keep an open mind.
There are a lot of people in this world (we will hit 7 billion in 2011). Some cultures and countries for that matter hardly , or do not eat animals or animal by products. The entire world is never going to become vegan , so do not concern yourself with that.

What most people do not know , or are to ignorant to know is that a lot of people chose to become vegan for other reasons than being an animal lover or belonging to PETA. Here are some other reasons with information to back it up.

Being vegetarian/vegan ...Environmental Concerns
All the cars, trucks, SUV's ,planes, trains, and ships in the world COMBINED are beaten out as the number one contributor to damaging the environment by the meat industry. United Nations 2003.
Seem hard to believe? Do some research , I promise you I am not wrong in this statement.

Being veg,vegan...Health
In today's world , humans do not need meat to survive. Studies have been done (The China Study, Forks over Knives) that actually prove we thrive from plant based diets. Animal by products can also do more harm than good to humans. There is evidence that cows milk does not protect the bones from osteoporosis , but can leech calcium from the bones.

Being veg,vegan...Ethics
10 Billion animals a year are killed for human consumption. The way they are slaughtered varies but this is a popular reason for people to choose a vegetarian lifestyle. Some look at in the way that they would not eat their pet so what makes any other animal different or would not be willing to slaughter their own meat .

Being veg,vegan...Evolution
We are the only "carnivores" that can not eat uncooked meat. We would get sick from it , and are teeth are not sharp enough to chew it. Human intestines are 3 times longer than that of a regular carnivore, meaning we can take up to 3 days to digest meat where something like a snake , or tiger would be a lot quicker. 75% of the population of the world is lactose intolerant (meaning they cannot digest things like milk or yogurt properly, myself included).

I think as times goes by, eating meat will become a little more of a taboo. Just as it took years for racism to lose its strength , or for women to be equal to men ( in some countries) ,I think we will look at eating animals differently too.

I know what I have just said is a lot to take in , but it is all just facts. The meat, dairy etc industry wants to make money at the end of the day , just like everyone else , so you have to be your own advocate. Eat meat if you choose, but just keep an open mind and your facts straight when debating this issue.

I hope not, this sort of mindless thought comes from people who get and expect other people to grow and provide their food, where they personally have not involvement other than choosing where and when they pick their product off the shelf!!

You also see from our American cousin's giving us many statistics and reasons from "Vegetarian Weekly" no doubt but they are basing it on their own personal beliefs. Biased to anyone else's thought and input but their own propaganda, Hitler done the same and plenty people believed him but it does not mean its correct or right!! Yes we have a problem with intensive rearing and farming, people consume too much but this and only this practise that they base their results on there are plenty of farms that diversify like organic and free range and try their best not to add to the CO2 footprint. Veg/vegans seem to drown out good farms by relating all farms to bad ones, they do not support anything not even the good ones which is ironic when organic and free range need all the help they can get so you could say that SOME veg/vegans are supporting the bad practices by not supporting the good.

The whole world is not America nor is it the same climate or culture, if vegetarian was so easy why are there still large areas of Africa starving because they do not have the climate like many other areas to support crops so meat easily transported to sustain them at least more than crops!!
In the UK we go through many many climate changes and the South of England at least have the least harsh conditions, do you honestly think that the South would be able to sustain the whole of the UK, NO. That means for the rest of the UK to grow their own you would have to use GM crops and industrial green houses to be able to grow out of season crops all year round. It would mean using using up large: areas, electricity, water, chemicals and pesticides all to feed a growing nation. Also would depend heavily on importation as we would not be able to grow everything.

The reason why India cope is down to the climate and culture put them somewhere else and they will perish!! Would you expect people who live as natural and traditional as possible to live in city's and townships make everyone the same, give up cultural root's like the reindeer people and the whalers at the top of Alaska where they can not grow anything!!!

Most of us do not own our own land nor will we any time soon so as it stands if you have the money you can have what you want so we wont be growing vegtables in any green area we can find!! It will be a disaster, prices going up, some areas in the UK already have a water ban most seasons. The population is growing also so it will be a battle between housing and crops!!!

Common sense is needed if you want to make a difference, fairly educate, teach people to eat less, put a cap on growth and make organic and free range the better option!!

The reason

I am entitled to my opinion just like everyone else!!

youre debating a losing argument, there are too many points otherwise, not to mention the fact that you cant decide how other people decide to "bring up" their children.

the 5000 gallons of water to produce a pound of beef is like the rest of petas claims. total bs.

The amount of water it takes to produce the food we eat is a matter of contention between special interest groups. The website
BeefFromPasturetoPlate.com states “Considering all factors in beef cattle production including direct consumption, irrigation of
pastures and crops, and carcass processing, it takes 435 gallons of water to produce a pound of boneless beef, according to the
CAST [Council for Agricultural Science and Technology, made up primarily of university agricultural researchers] 1999 Animal
Agriculture and Global Food Supply Report” (see http://www.beeffrompasturetoplate.org/my…
But according to the website GoVeg.com, “It takes 5,000 gallons of water to produce 1 pound of meat, while growing 1
pound of wheat only requires 25 gallons” (cited from the book The Food Revolution by John Robbins). There are so many
factors that go into estimating the amount of water (or other resources) used to produce our food that special interest
groups can pick “extreme” examples to make their point.

My family came from poverty and meat was in fact a luxury. They mainly lived off food they grew themselves. How are vegetables a luxury for poor people but meat is not????? When in fact the rich countries are the ones who mostly have that luxury of eating meat and using up most resources.

it takes 5000 gallons of water to produce a pound of beef. Only 25 to produce a pound of wheat. have a look at the link

EDIT:
I'm not saying i believe it, or agree with it (actually i believe eating meat is crucial for our health)
I was just trying to help her with her debate, that's what she asked for !

i think everyone should be brought up vegan :-) heres a link to a site with a lot of pro-vegan arguments

It's for the debating contest???
You see the thing is, this is a negative thing so you are debating using bullshit things.

Edit:
Jess the thing is like nick's argument it is hopeless, water cannot be wasted as there is a cycle, even if they are evaborated they are still in the air, possibly forming clouds. So how about you change sides -.-
