its quite good, and since i eat so much cheese i thought it was best if it was vegetarian. but im getting nervous with all the claims being made against soy.

Answers:

It's fine in moderation, just like any other food. It's only unhealthy if you consume excessive amounts of it (ex. Drinking 7 glasses of soy milk a day and eating fake meat every night).

From what I have read, it is not that soy is necessarily bad for you, but we are getting so much soy in our diet that the balance of omega 3 fatty acids (found in soybeans) and omega 6 fatty acids is out of wack, which scientists believe can contribute to a number of disorders (diabetes, cardiovascular disease etc). If you check the ingredient list of every day processed foods, a great many of them have some type of soy protein in them. Soy milk, vegetarian products (like the veggie cheese, veggie burgers) tofu and edemame are the well recognized ones. But as I type I look at a package of Thai Kitchen peanut stir fry rice noodles I have and on the ingredient list is hydrolized soy protein. In the Wanchai Ferry sweet and sour chicken dinner, the ingredient label shows soybeans. I would not expect to find soybeans in these products. My Tuna Helper package has hydrolized vegetable protein - the source - corn, wheat and soy. Soy is literally in EVERYTHING

I think the medical consensus is that soy in moderation is ok for most people. If you have thyroid problems, you should probably not eat soy. You just shouldn't build your diet around it: soy milk, fake meats, soy cereal, tofu, etc. While some people point to the Japanese as proof soy is healthy, the truth is the Japanese eat mostly fermented soy. Most of the soy sold as a substitute in the veg*n diet is not fermented.

well i got sick from soy products when i was a vegetarian.i used to eat morning star products and i ended up gaining weight and becoming unhealthy from the soy products, so if you do decide to eat any soy products please be careful, eat in moderation!

It is all based on perspective. I think Soy is That Good! I have been eating it for about 20 years ever since my doctor told me my cholesterol was too high. I started eating Morningstar veggie burgers with the veggie cheese and aas long as i got it down I would be OK. It actually tasted good . I know it was alittle different in texture and taste but i could handle it. After a few of those type of cheese burger I have only had three real ones since.
after about two weeks i started drinking soy milk and by the time of my next Doctor visit; aobut two months my cholesterol was down from 299 to 160. My doctor was astonished but very goald I had followed his advice. Soy tears down the bad cholesterol and builds up the good cholesterol.
I now cook with Tofu once in a while, but I try to eat only cholesterol free foods.
Did you know there is no cholesterol in a Hershey Bar? Even a big one.
