Why is fish not considered meat?!

Question: Why is fish not considered meat?
Answers:

It is considered meat, especially in terms of the vegetarian/vegan discussion.

It winds up in a different section of the cookbook for the same reason that pasta dishes often wind up in a different section than grains... it's treated differently as an ingredient. You aren't usually going to sear fish over really high heat and then stew it for ages. You probably aren't going to roast it for hours, either, and it's unlikely that you will season it with bold flavors like red wine and bay leaves like you would red meat.

In terms of Catholicism, there are a number of theories, but it basically boils down to the culture of the time simply not considering fish as meat. The meat from land animals being considered "rich man's food" and a sign of celebration, but fish flesh being considered "poor man's food." The wealthy gave up their land animals during Lent as a sacrifice. Another interesting theory I heard is that it is to honor Christ's sacrifice in a more literal way. Jesus was warm-blooded and he sacrificed his flesh, so Catholics should give up warm-blooded animals to remember the sacrifice.

It is, I love it too when someone tells me they're vegitarian and start eating fish.

The best one is if someone tries to convince me that chicken isn't meat.

Meat = all animals

Beef = cow, stupid fking hypocrits

Whoever that idiot was that said meat is the flesh of an animal, you might want to take a highschool biology class, it's the muscles of an animal.

Meat: the flesh of an animal.
Fish: an aquatic animal.
Fish flesh: meat.

In the middle ages, some religions would allow the consumption of fish but no other meat, which in turned caused many to think that fish wasn't meat for whatever reason...probably because they arent land mammals.

It is, but some people still want to eat fish so they pretend its not. Also, for the user who said its not a mammal; Chickens aren't mammals either, but does that mean they aren't meat?

It is considered meat. Meat is the flesh of an animal. Therefor fish is meat. Pretty simple huh?

Fish is a meat but some choose to continue eating it for health reasons normally.

Who knows, I say if it has eyes, and a brain, its an animal.
I don't eat it

Fish is meat

Fish is meat.

I've wondered about the same, btw... may be because it's not that fatty and people are allowed to eat it when they fast unlike meat... hm.. but it IS meat, of course..

Cause its not a mammal!
