Question about the vegetarian diet - lack of something in my body?!
I have a small problem, which makes things difficult sometimes - I'm not completely sure if it's because of the lack of meat, or whatever it may be, in my body, but I get really paranoid/unsociable/closed-up/anxious sometimes - I notice it more when I'm at school or in public.
Sometimes (rarely) I come to school feeling amazing, completely comfortable with myself - I talk with ease and fun and life. Usually, however, I'm okay in conversation, but I don't 'experiment' or talk creatively like I do very occasionally - when at school.
I have a feeling it's something to do with what I have eaten - usually I don't have that much food on a school day.
Should I go to the doctor to see if there's a medicine to make me feel like I'm owning the world again, or could you tell me some good foods to try?
PLEASE HELP!
Answers:
A medicine that "makes you feel like you own the world" would be incredibly addicting. (Like cocaine, for example.) All pharmaceuticals have side effects. These lead to other drugs and different side effects.
If you think something is lacking in your diet, take a multivitamin or pop a couple of B-12- they're very mood enhancing. Get more exercise- 30 minutes a day works wonders for anxiety.
Chances are, it's hormonal, and will pass. If not, try decreasing the amount of processed foods you consume, and increasing the raw fruits and vegetables. This improves circulation and balances hormones.
Sounds like anxiety. I have an anxiety disorder and it comes on worse when I don't eat. I think it is related to blood sugar levels. Start the day with a good breakfast, make sure you eat lunch as well and see if that helps. Also consider seeing a psychologist who will be better able to identify what is going on for you. There may be more symptoms you are not aware of.

Sounds more like a mental disorder try looking up social anxiety disorder on google, food can't make you feel this bad mentally. If you are worried about your diet try a good multivitamin.
If you think it's worse when you haven't eaten much, eat more.
i think its more a self-confidence issue, thats psychological and nothing physiological like diet
That is a mental issue and has Nothing to do with your diet.
paranoid/unsociable/closed-up/anxious
These are not typically symptoms of a bad diet, much less a lack of meat. Eating badly or not enough, yeah, it might make some people irritable or even depressed, but when you say paranoid and anxious it makes me think you might need to talk to a psychiatrist (that sounds harsh doesn't it? grr I hate how we stigmatize mental conditions). They can decide if you need any medication or counseling. I would be wary of drugs to make you feel like you're owning the world, as somebody else said, they are addictive. It's probably something that will pass anyway. At 18 you're hormonal and your life is going through a lot of changes, so it's normal to feel weird.
I don't think it has anything to do with lack of meat in your diet. It is to do with social and mental conditioning.
Make sure you eat a lot of fruits every day, that way you will never feel tired. Get atleast 50% of your calories from fruits. Eat fruits for breakfast, and snack on fruits on empty stomach whenever you feel hungry. Try to have only one type of fruit at a time, as it is best not to mix too many different types of fruits. The natural sugars in the fruits will boost your energy level and psychological being. You can email me if you have any questions. Good luck!
There are websites and books relating to the The Adrenal Syndrome - a 21st Century problem. The adrenals can and do create so many problems in the body - stress is a huge contributing factor. Many people have been wrongly diagnosed with depression and anxiety. Many take medication which is unnecessary. Symptoms can be addressed with simple changes in lifestyle, exercise and diet. The mood swings and emotions may be due to this syndrome. It is shown that university students, CEOs, and people in stressful positions/jobs are more likely to suffer with this problem.
