Are plain baked potatoes healthy?!

Question: Are plain baked potatoes healthy?
Are plain baked potatoes healthy?
I'm trying to make a healthy school lunch option. Would one plain baked potatoe be a healthy lunch everyday? About how many calories would be in that? Would that be a good lunch if you're trying to loose weight?

Answers:

1 medium potato has roughly 140-160 calories, 4 grams of protein, and 4 grams of fiber. It is a very healthy food. It only becomes unhealthy when saturated in oil or condiments. ^-^

Starch is not bad for you; it's just a carbohydrate--which should be a fair amount of what you eat. =P

Plain baked potatoes are probably much healthier than what the school lunch is providing. Without all the extra accesories on them they are relatively calorie friendly, high in fiber and quite nutritious so yes they can be a good choice. The fiber will help you feel fuller. You might also add some fruit, apple/orange, etc. some almond milk, and some raw vegetables cucumbers, etc. or a salad with minimal or low calorie dressing.

Absolutly not! Potatoes are very healthy in moderation. Anything can be unhealthy if you eat to much of it. A baked potato is approximately 138 calories. But just having a potato foe lunch is very unhealthy, especially if done regularly. I suppose you could do it occasionally but try pairing it with some broccoli or greenbeans or try adding so fruit like an apple. Or you could add some lean chicken breast to your lunch.

Baked potatoes is a healthy option when compared to fried potatoes or french fries. But potatoes are starchy and are high in carbs. So lunching on baked potatoes with the intention of losing weight is certainly not going to help.
Switch to salad, fresh fruits, grilled veggies etc, that will be a healthier option.

Ofcourse they are healthy. But if youre trying to loose weight then having a baked potato isn't the best thing to eat, as it contains a hell of a lot of Carbs. Try eating salad with lots of vegetables, such as peppers, cucumber, celery, onions, tomatoes and so forth.

a potato with nothing on it? How can you warm it up at school? I like sour cream and butter and cheese on mine. But that's up to you, what you eat with it. Or brocoli.

I don't know how many calories they contain, but they are healthy and have vitamin C.

Add something low fat to your potato like hummus or salsa.
Being on a diet doesnt mean you shouldnt enjoy your food.

It's better than a plate of French Fries but not as good as a fresh salad.
