How long does flaxseed have to cook to reduce possible poisoning? A few minutes, or more than that?!

Question: How long does flaxseed have to cook to reduce possible poisoning? A few minutes, or more than that?
I just bought whole uncooked flaxseed thinking I would put some in my oatmeal before microwaving for two minutes, then found that raw flaxseed has something like poison in it which can cause death. I am concerned about that type of side effect. I read that two tsp per day was ok even if it is raw, but I have no problem cooking it. Just not sure if two min in microwave will be enough. Thanks.

If you are cooking it in the oatmeal shouldn't that be good enough? I eat a lot of flax seed and have not heard anything about it being dangerous. I just throw the ground flax into smoothies a tablespoon at a time.

I use a Vitamix every morning with veggies and flaxseed, chia seeds, ginger root, and other healthy goodies and haven't croak yet. Grinding them up makes them hide themselves an add a little nutty taste to the breakfast drink.

If they were going to poison me I would like to know when. It has been part of a 6 month recipe and I would like to know when I am going so that I can pick out a nice grave stone for myself... lol

common sense

I really hope you don't make a life or death situation over something you read from Yahoo Answers.

Just sayin.

my parents and brother have been eating flax seed for years and never had issues with it.
