vegans don't eat animals and seafood and anything that's made from animals, like eggs, milk, etc. Vegetarians eat eggs and cheese and milk. No animals.

Go to wikipedia and type in vegetarian. There's 4 types.

Vegetarians = no meat, no fish/seafood, and may consume one/both of eggs / dairy. (Lacto-ovo vegetarian = consumes both eggs & dairy, lacto vegetarian = consumes dairy not eggs, ovo vegetarian = consumes eggs not dairy). Certain animal products a vegetarian won't consume, irregardless of their type of vegetarianism (mentioned above), like gelatin (like in marshmallows) or rennet.

Vegans = consume no meat, fish/seafood, dairy OR eggs. They also will not use things like leather or animal derived products. Their list of ingredients for foods is MUCH longer for what they cannot consume. They also buy products like vegan shampoo, vegan hygenics, vegan furniture, vegan clothes, etc. EVERYTHING in their life is "vegan." Whereas a vegetarian MAY still buy, for example, non-vegan shampoo, or have leather in their house, or wear silk.

vegetarianism- a diet in which meat is restricted or in the case of strict vegetarians all foods containing animal products including eggs dairy and slaughterhouse byproducts.

veganism- a lifestyle in which an individual tries to eliminate as many animal products from their life which is practically possible, extending beyond foods to include clothing, medications, cosmetics etc. Products which are tested on animals are also avoided within reason (eg life saving medications will typically not be avoided despite their being the result of animal testing). The goal of the vegan is to reduce their influence on the use of animals by humans as much as they possibly can.

The girl you gave the cookies too was silly and misinformed.

Vegetarians eat everythingexcept the meat.
THey eat eggs, milk cheese.

Vegans do not eat ANYTHING from an animal. They do not eat cow's milk or cows cheese, or eggs, or honey.

They eat soymilk, soy cheese, or cheese and milk made from almonds, walnuts etc.

Lots of foods and products like makeup and soap are tested on animals, so a lot of people think that is very cruel and they don't use those products.

Vegetarians can eat a chocolate chip cookie.
Your friend sounds like she didn't know the difference between vegan and vegetarian.

Vegetarian: Does not eat meat. Animal products are usually present in their diet. But your friend may have either just been using "vegetarian" as a label so she doesn't get the question I get asked sometimes: "Whats a vegan?" (your question isn't annoying, but to the face some people find it comes up too much) OR she could have been slowly cutting out eat animal product into a transition into complete veganism...
Some, but not very many at all, still eat fish.

Vegan: Eating NOTHING that has, or once had, a face. Nor ANYTHING that comes from it. A vegan just consumes fruits, veggies, nuts, tofu, vegan ice cream, soy milk... theres so much vegan foods. Even ones that weren't intended to be. To find out what they eat, just look at labels. They'll tell you if there's eggs, milk, ect inside. I used to eat oreos when I was a regular vegan (I'm raw vegan now, AKA only fruits and veg, +some n.uts, nothing else) and oat meals, certain cereals, and so on.

Vegans don't eat dairy products so milk cheese yogurt chocolate anything with dairy in it they don't eat. Also vegans don't eat meat or eggs. So they pretty much only eat fruits and veggies and tofu. Vegetarians don't eat meat thats it. They eat fruits veggies tofu and some dairys

I was a vegetarian but my iron was low so I eat meat

It would be easier for you to search YA for this question because it has been asked many times before.
Vegans don't eat any animal products. There are several different types of vegetarians.

And I've never heard of testing M&Ms on mice...

Vegans=no animal products whatsoever. No meat, but also no dairy, or wearing leather.
Vegetarians=No meat. May include dairy products in their diet.
