My son and I are now vegetarians this week. Learned alot about animals and their suffering to feed us.?!
Answers:
Show them the video.
People ( In my experience) rarely can answer after they've seen the Meet Your MEat videos.
Ignore any comments, people WILL tease and make silly comments- they have to. You are putting up a wall against what they do and now they feel threatened, and whats more, they feel you are taking a higer moral ground so their only way out is to tease you and call you names.
It will happen.
Think about it- when YOU ate meat, before those videos, maybe you didn't understand what you understand now.
So give them a chance, because they will be ignorant about it.
There are many kinds of vegetarians. Around the world, most vegetarians are ovo-lacto vegetarian, meaning they eat eggs and dairy. Most large chain restaurants these day have vegetarian options. To be sure your son has something to eat, yes, you should pack his meals when he's away from home. I'm sure it won't bother him at all not to be able to share the pizza that the rest of his class/friends is enjoying.
Did you also learn about the animals that die in the fields during the production of veggies and grains that will make up your vegetarian diet? Like it or not, humans are part of the food chain. Whether you eat them or not, animals will die for you to live.
From the link:
"Animals of the field are killed by several factors, including:
1. Tractors and farm implements run over them.
2. Plows and cultivators destroy underground burrows and kill animals.
3. Removal of the crops (harvest) removes ground cover allowing animals on the surface to be killed by predators.
4. Application of pesticides.
So, every time the tractor goes through the field to plow, disc, cultivate, apply fertilizer and/or pesticide, harvest, etc., animals are killed. And, intensive agriculture such as corn and soybeans (products central to a vegan diet) kills far more animals of the field than would extensive agriculture like forage production, particularly if the forage was harvested by ruminant animals instead of machines. So perhaps fewer animals would be killed by producing beef, lamb, and dairy products for humans to eat instead of the vegan diet envisioned by Regan."
Be sure and discuss this part of the vegetarian diet with your son. I'm sure both of you want to be fully informed about the impact of your diet on the animals.

I usually bring my own dish, and a few nice foods for my family, as well. :) Just to spread the veg love, if they wanna some of what I brought!
I bring salad, bocca burgers, veggie trays, Rvegan brownies (you guys probably aren't vegan, or raw vegan, but just sayin' their good and people like them).
Just don't shove a meat tray away from you like its gonna kill you if they set it near you, don't act like somebody is trying to kill you with food, ect. They'll see how good you're doing, and how easy it can be if you're all for it and ready to help make a change. Then you won't appear nuts.
My family thinks I'm nuts to... they thought I really lost my mind going raw vegan, but even then with RAW, I showed them! ;)
I also feel bad for the animals but we cant stop the other people who is going to eat them so what does that change its still the same way just eat meat its healthy if there was meat without killing aniimals trust me iwould eat it but there is not so just eat meat nothings gona change if you dont but anyways if your still a vegitarian just pack your own lunch or if they have salad there or tell them to prepare you and your son something.
