10 million Americans today consider themselves to be practicing vegetarians an additional 20 million think about becoming one.
Heres a link for nation wide statistics: http://www.raw-food-health.net/NumberOfV…

About 3.2% or "3.2" people for every 100 (not for every 33). However as with any statistic that involve lifestyles, it is only a "guesstimate" at best. People change after the survey or were lying, uninformed abut specific definitions etc. For example, people who eat fish or chicken may answer "Yes" when asked if they are vegetarians. People are also classified automatically based on religion even if individual adherence is not 100%. For example, the whole 7th Day adventist Church may be classified as "vegetarian" because of church doctrine but not very church member is actually inflating the total number. On the other hand, someone may not be a vegetarian at the time of survey but later "converted" etc etc.
Kids are not included in the survey for the simple reason that they are more prone to "fads" and change preferences frequently. Also most children do not decide their diets so many may want to be vegetarians but cannot or some do not want to be vegetarians but are made into one by their parents.
I've heard 3%
Assuming there are 300 million people in the US (there are actually a little bit more) that's 9 million people.
Think about it as one in every thirty three people :)
@exfst
LOL 1/33≈ 3%
one in thirty three people is the same as three in one hundred : P
I've researched this topic before and have found many different statistics. Ive found an article that says around 6%, while another said 1%. I'd say around 2-3% is pretty accurate. Keep in mind though those surveys were only the percentage of vegetarian *adults*.
A 2008 study found that around 7.3 million Americans are vegetarians.

Around 2%. Considering the population of the USA is over 300 MILLION, you do the math.
In the US it is roughly 2% of the population.
In Europe it is 8%.
India 85%!
not enough
How many people are there in the US? The number of people calling themselves vegetarian in the US has remained pretty steady at about 2% for decades. Or at least that many people claim to be vegetarian. It's a difficult # to pin down because, in a TIME magazine article a while back, about half the people claiming to be vegetarian had eaten red meat within the last two days! When a diet gets to be trendy, lots of people jump on the bandwagon.
Also according to TIME, there are three times as many ex-vegetarians in the US as current vegetarians. I guess that says something about the diet?
too many
