When food labels say there is natural flavors in them, why don't they say what they actually are?!

Question: When food labels say there is natural flavors in them, why don't they say what they actually are?
I just became a vegetarian this week and have yogurt at home. It says "natural flavors". What in the hell does that mean????? And what about artificial flavors? What does that mean????

Answers:

The exact definition of natural flavorings & flavors from Title 21, Section 101, part 22 of the Code of Federal Regulations is as follows:

"The term natural flavor or natural flavoring means the essential oil, oleoresin, essence or extractive, protein hydrolysate, distillate, or any product of roasting, heating or enzymolysis, which contains the flavoring constituents derived from a spice, fruit or fruit juice, vegetable or vegetable juice, edible yeast, herb, bark, bud, root, leaf or similar plant material, meat, seafood, poultry, eggs, dairy products, or fermentation products thereof, whose significant function in food is flavoring rather than nutritional."

In other words, natural flavors can be pretty much anything approved for use in food.

You are not a vegan. Real vegans won't eat food that has natural flavor because that means it has meat it it. Did you just become a vegan or something? You seem pretty you know?

Look at the ingredients. You'll find out if it's natural.
