If you're vegetarian, you don't have to avoid gelatin and rennet...vegetarian means just avoiding meat...and many peoples' definitions of vegetarian differ. Some say they are vegetarian but eat chicken or fish. I think that's crap. If you are vegetarian, you don't eat any meat. Vegetarianism is much easier than veganism, but getting caught up in the labels doesn't really matter. Stop eating whatever you want to stop eating, and if gelatin and rennet are included, all the better. I'm vegetarian, but I use almost exclusively Silk soy milk in place of regular milk (which I stopped having a taste for once I became vegetarian, anyway), no gelatin, only black beans or vegetarian refried beans, I'm not a big fan of eggs, but they are in plenty of baked goods that I still eat.
As far as sweets go, you shouldn't have to count out much, unless you are talking about being vegan. However, even vegetarians have to check labels way more often than you would think. My dad made a broccoli cheddar soup one night from a dried soup mix and assured me it was vegetarian, but I double checked the label, and sure enough-- friggin chicken broth was in it, go figure. I've had the same thing happen with tomato soups. I also check for carmine in a lot of things
-- carmine is made from crushed up cochineal beetles and used to color a lot of red things-- strawberry yogurts, even cosmetics.
Plenty of food options are out there, as long as you are committed to this, you still have plenty of things to eat. Try some different "fake meat" products if you like, Boca, Morningstar, Quorn, etc. Soups (as long as they don't have chicken broth), potatoes, vegetables, fruits, pastas
There are many sweets you can still eat, don't worry :) I know you can definatly have chewits, love hearts, some chocolates, although you have to check the labels on them. There are more obviously, like maltesers, but I can't say them all off the top of my head. However, I know you cannot eat marshmellows, haribo, most jelly sweets, maoams or drumstick lollipops, which really got me down ;D I'm still not sure about smarties and things like that, they're quite confusing as theyre isn't anything obvious that says they're unsuitable, however, they don't actually label them as suitable.
Vegetarian
You don't HAVE to cut out gelatin if you don't want to... If you were a vegan you'd have to, but vegetarians have more slack on their rules. Me, I'm a vegetarian, but I still eat gelatin because I find it fairly hard to avoid and I'm relatively new to all this. What I consider meat is flesh from any creature, or products from the flesh like dried chicken powder as a seasoning and things like that. I know gelatin is hooves, but again, you don't have to cut that out yet if you don't want to. Good luck! =D
There are a few treats that are good for vegetarians. If you still consume dairy then of course you can have ice cream and such. If you don't consume dairy, then you could always have soy ice cream or chocolate almond/silk milk. Every now and then I'll drink 2oz of Silk dark chocolate almond milk and it's only 30 calories. 2oz is all I need just to have a little sweet treat.
I also highly recommend the Endangered Species chocolate. They are a bunch of flavors; most are vegan. I've found these in the Nature's Market section at Kroger. 10% of their yearly profits goes to help endangered species. http://www.chocolatebar.com
Not all sweets - you'll have to check the labelling. Google it, but I'm pretty sure gelantin (without the 'e') is OK, but gelatine is made with animal derived renin. I.e my MIL is a vegetarian and can't eat Maoam and Haribo.
veggie mother in law
Well it shouldn't be a problem if your a vegetarian eating sweets . But if you were vegan on the other hand you would have to watch out for stuff like milk,egg,etc....
well i know you can't eat haribos or coca cola bottles that sort of thing
obsessive veggie friend who used to be vegan as well but i'd suggest you never go there unless you want to go on a chocolate deficiency rampage.
I think you mean rennet. Renal pertains to kidneys. You have to take it on a case by case basis. Read the ingredients on an item before you eat it.
yes of course.
Just watch out for gelatin, which is in so many things.

That's pretty much it.
Different story if you're vegan though.
