Why do many vegetarians think this way?!

Question: Why do many vegetarians think this way?
From what I understand, many vegetarians think it's wrong to eat animals because it's a violation against nature or something.
What the heck? Eating other animals is a huge part of nature. If what they said is true, then lions, tigers, and bears, oh my, and all the other carnivores out there are committing a terrible crime. But they're not. Humans are not exempt from this - we are, by scientific definition, animals. And we're omnivores. And anyway, by this way of thinking, vegetarians shouldn't be able to eat plants, either, because those are also alive. So what's left to eat? Salt? I don't know, I just don't get the whole vegetarian thing. Somebody please explain why they think this way, because it doesn't make sense to me at all.
(NOTE: I'm not saying ALL vegetarians think this way, okay? Just some. So please, none of that.)

There are many reasons to be a vegetarian, but I don't know anyone who is a vegetarian because they think eating animals is a violation against nature. Disgust with industry practices, health concerns, love of animals, don't like idea of eating flesh, inefficiency of land use (meat vs veggie)--those are the primary reasons I'm aware of.

Well, actually, all of the vegetarians I know aren't protesting against eating animals in general, they just don't like the way animals are treated before they are killed.

Most big food companies will stuff cows into a little metal box when they're young and they'll just live in there until they're slaughtered. Same with chickens.

It's very depressing. :/

I like meat too much to be a vegetarian, though...

I've never met a vegetarian who thought it's wrong to eat animals.

If you're referring to vegetarians who think it's wrong for HUMANS to eat animals,
the facts are on their side-
humans have ethical imperatives that compel them to choose the most humane lifestyle possible
animals don't.
Humans can survive and thrive on a diet free of animal products,
natural omnivores cannnot.

Mass-production of animals purely for our consumption is not natural. Eating animals to survive, is. Cruelty before an animal is killed and packaged is not natural. Catching, killing quickly and eating to survive, is.

My logic to being a vegetarian.

Deer Hunter: Oh not another person who thinks rape is a woman's fault -.-.

I'm vegan because I completely disagree with the meat/dairy/egg industries. I refuse to do business with them or consume their products.

My objections come from the way animals are being treated in these industries. It has nothing to do with nature. I'm am doing very well without meat, my philosophy:

If you don't have to hurt something, don't.

Vegan

You obviously have not researched the subject of why many vegetarians are vegetarians in the first place. The animals that are made for food, a majority of them if not all of them, are 'raised' on factory farms and endure a lot of cruelty, it's very sad. So please get your facts straight before commenting.

A human drinking cow milk is going against nature. Plus, The milk mustaches on the Got Milk? commercials and ads are gross and disgusting. Every time I see one, it looks like he/she just finished performing a sexual act on a COW!!! That's borderline bestiality to me,. Your thought process is convoluted.

For some people it may because of religion and culture, some its just simply a lifestyle choice and for others it may be because there animal lovers, I mean if you loved your pet fish you wouldn't eat right?

My body is unable to handle meat.
Also the hormones and bacteria on it are just disgusting.

There is nothing natural about the meat on your plate and how it came to be there.

I'm sorry but I just can't support such a cruel system. Yeah we wish and hope animals are treated better but the reality is that they're treated horrible in the industrialized agriculture where all that matters is profits. This is the main reason I decided to go vegan. By funding that we are allowing this to continue. I think many people just aren't aware of how animals are kept because this is well hidden from us. We're so disconnected from our food. If you know what goes on, I don't see how you don't get it? I believe if we're the "smartest" species we have a responsibility towards animals not to abuse them.

When I used to think of animal cruelty, I though of cases like Michael Vick, puppy mills etc. and turned a blind eye on the food industry for years. Well not anymore. Suffering is suffering. If I don't need it and have other options, why not be veggie. Those are my reasons for being a vegan.

I have been wanting to watch this documentary, Earthlings, which I've read good reviews about. Maybe you can check it out too and understand why a lot people choose it for ethical reasons.

My dear... many things are part of nature. Rape, murder, incest, child abuse, and torture are found in every culture, every century in history. These things are very natural, and very much a part of human nature. Do you want to participate in these things??

Everyone says that stuff about the humanely killed animals (biggest oxymoron ever) and says that they eat meat that has been running around in green fields or whatever. So... you only buy your meat from whole foods/natural stores or hunt yourself? If you go out to chain restaurants, eat fast food, or eat meat from ANYWHERE that's not clearly labeled "grass-fed free range beef", you ARE supporting factory farming.

I'm not for this whole "happy meat" movement in the first place, but it really gets on my nerves when people claim they're "totally against that" then go and eat meat from the first place they find. Have some consistency, or just admit that you don't give 2 flips

What you don't understand is that animals in the wild sharks, tigers, hippos ect kill animals to survive. They have no choice. Humans on the other hand don't have to kill animals to survive anymore. Killing animals to survive and killing an animal purly because it tastes good are completly different. To answer your queshtion no I don't think it's wrong for an animal to kill an animal and I don't think it's wrong for a human to kill an animal even when they don't have to it's just their choice. I don't care about plants. You can not make friends with a plant the way you can with an animal and if we didn't eat plants they would just fall off the tree or whatever and die and it would be a big waste where as animals can provide things for us like milk, wool, protection ect. People really have to stop coming to this section and presenting arguments that they think are making them sound intelligent but to be honest...every time someone brings up "the circle of life" or "lions also kill animals" i laugh.
Happy valentines day.

On the point of science. . . SCIENTIFIC EXPERIMENTS are cruel, fur industries are cruel, puppy mills are cruel etc, I didn't mean that to come across as rude. Many vegetarians are not simply so because of the meat industry although it plays a big part, but for many reasons. Vegans however don't eat dairy either, rightfully so (in my opinion). I don't think there is actually a slaughterhouse on the planet that doesn't kill with suffering. Humanity is greedy and materialistic, the less money 'wasted'/SPENT on animals the better therefore they probably will never change what way they treat animals. People actually try to state that inducing fear in the animals enhances the tenderness/taste of the animal when eating, which is WRONG.
In nature animals eat animals to survive, humans do NOT need meat to survive as we can survive on vegetables and fruit, alternatives to meat are soya and quorn. Which taste like meat. Pasta can still be eaten as well as a lot of other products. Look into alternatives to meat more in case you are debating vegetarianism. Hope I helped, sorry if it seemed as though I was preaching.

I am not a vegetarian, but I do think the way industry is treating animals is horrible. I have cut way back on eating meat because of this. I haven't stopped entirely, because I just started and am learning how to get enough protein without meat. I also see that the meat we are eating is disgusting. The cows are chopped up, sores..tumors..ecol i and all, then ground into hamburgers for us to eat? What about the chemicals in the milk? Hormones to keep the cows producing all year, antibiotics because the teats get infected being yanked by metal tubes. And chicken? There is no telling anymore what a chicken is supposed to taste like. They pump them with all sorts of steroids to make them larger faster..so much so some have broken legs because their bodies grow faster than their bones...sick. There are so many chemicals in chicken, pork, beef..and even turkey that it isn't really healthy to eat anymore. Turkey...a roasted one at home...look at the ingredients. You can't even recognize half of it. So much sodium is added to raw meat that we are all going to have heart trouble eating meat we were told was lean. So, there is more to some people going vegan or vegetarian than just the horrible way these animals are treated. Just FYI.

Nutrition Information listed on the products I buy. Also, many various news articles and news shows.

you sound more like you're dissing or ranting rather then trying to get an answer, but i'll answer you anyway. it's ok, you're just (like most people) not too educated on this matter. no offence please.
animals who are omnivores or carnivores ARE meant to hunt, kill and eat animals. they have the proper body to do so. to kill and digest (digest meat). a human is built herbivores in every way. humans have absolutely no characteristics of an omnivore or a carnivore.

look at this and read the comparisons just to understand what i'm talking about and to serve as proof that i ain't talking out of my ***:http://www.celestialhealing.net/physical…
and my fav comparison would be (copy pasted):
Meat-eaters: have intestinal tract that is only 3 times their body length so that rapidly decaying meat can pass through quickly
Herbivores: have intestinal tract 10-12 times their body length.
Humans: have intestinal tract 10-12 times their body length.
ohh yeeea.

so, read that page i show you, then tell me if you think humans are made to eat meat or not. but you were wondering about animals too. well, there is such animals who ARE made to eat meat. some can have both meat and non-meat. that's how the world works, some animals are needed partly to be eaten, by SOME animals that can eat meat and humans aren't part of those animals. mind you, humans HAVE to cook meat before they eat it...??? ever see a lion cook an zebra he just caught? and what do you think zebras eat? non-meat foods.

some humans eat cows. imagine you're alone in the sea and want to kill a shark cuz, you're hungry. some people eat shark... well, between you and the shark, who do you think is gonna win? mind you, you're alone and bare-handed. so, if you ask me, you don't kill any animal to eat unless you have no other vegetation around you to get, and you are straving, AND only with your bare hands. cuz if you bring a gun along, that's cheating the natural routine and screwing up the food chain even more.

Well I'm lacto-vegeterian and in my opinion, its different vegenterians and vegans just. Don't believe in eating someone that has been slaughtered to death while suffering, plants are different they don't have a heart now do they? Its a stem. So yeahh animals have a heart they breath and they are innocently murdered while being torjured to death. Which is really sad. Then again everyone has there opinion in viewing this topic.

Cows, chickens, etc. are pumped full of hormones and other chemicals to make them larger. Cows do not graze, they are kept in tight quarters and fed corn mash. Something they would never normally eat but it's used to make them fat in a very short span of time. Cows who are used for milk must be impregnated many times before they are eventually crippled by it and sold at auction. The baby calves that come from these mothers are forcibly taken from their mothers for veal. By the time they are at auction they are so malnourished they are unable to stand. We are seeing a rise in girls having their periods at extremely young ages. Hormones in the milk, cheese and meat they eat don't play a factor? I think they do. I eat a plant based diet because I find it to be ethically in line with my path as a yoga practitioner. I also know that people do not need meat for protein. There are many sources of protein. Some major cancer centers exclude meat from cancer patients diets and only have them on vegetarian/vegan diets because their is a link between cancer and meat particularly for those already diagnosed. Heart disease and meat: huge causative link. Environmental destruction because of the land needed for raising animals. I did my research in all areas and made a decision to eat a plant based diet (I don't like to say vegan because it is too charged a term). Best.

User ''i know'' is wrong in saying we are herbivores straight up & simple and i gladly offer a debate via my email if he/she wants to do so.
Right this is a basic folly vegetarians are against harming sentient animals (ie those that think/have potential to think & due to this complex build are able to feel pain). Plants cannot, vegetarians are against killing sentient animals more so than killing of life, yes we are omnivores perfectly capable. We have a choice though unlike many animals in survival in the wild, we can eat plants or eat meat or both, vegetarians opt for the unconcious food choice & which we deem more ethical to consume as it requires no harm (except that plant being terminated of its life, an axiom of life is to consume other life).

As to your additonal details, so you are against the animal being treated bad but alright with basically having the control of letting that animal live or die? all for the sake of you wanting meat? Would it not be even better to not slaughter that animal & let it live? Also for many econmical reasons MANY farmers will send their cattle to slaughterhouses. Regardless if the animal was living like a king at its farm, high chances are that its sent to a slaughterhouse.
See this is where vegetarians have a problem, it cannot be reasoned otherwise. Meat is not necessary in developed countries & so is ate for pleasure, but pleasure of taste is no more a reason to harm an animal than it is to harm a human.

vegetarian
