Are having micro mini pigs as pets wrong to some of you guys?!

Question: Are having micro mini pigs as pets wrong to some of you guys?
I'm a vegetarian and I'm asking other vegetarians this question. Is it wrong to you guys for someone to have a pig as a pet? I want one of these and I was wondering if it's inhumane? Do you view this to be any different from having a dog or a cat as a pet? They're really smart and can be treated like cats and dogs. I'd understand if having a monkey or tiger is wrong, but what about pigs.

No, I have thee of them and they are the most loyal pets you can have. Clean, too. It would be inhumane to not adopt these sweet animals!

My three little angels!

I don't have a problem with pigs as pets, per se.

But . . .

There's no such thing as a micro-pig. Some breeds of pigs are smaller than others, but the very smallest will weigh in at 60-100 pounds for a female, and 90-150 pounds for a male. It's fair to call these "miniature," since most breeds of pigs will easily top 500 pounds.

The pigs that unscrupulous breeders call micro-pigs are either:

1. Baby pigs, that will grow to normal size in time, or
2. Starved, so they don't achieve their full growth because of malnutrition.

Pig rescues are filled with orphan pigs purchased by people who were assured they would not grow any bigger than 40 pounds. Also, many cities and suburbs prohibit keeping livestock such as pigs, goats and hens, even if they really are pets, so a lot of pigs are removed from their homes, even if their owners really do want to keep them.

If not adopted from a shelter I view any pets as somewhat wrong. I'm simply against buying pets, because that is treating them like toys or home-wares and therefore a form exploitation. Considering I don't believe you'll find any micro mini pigs at an animal shelter then I would say having one is wrong but it's really the buying I'm against. There's nothing wrong in terms of a pig's welfare if it's kept as a domestic pet, as it is a domesticated breed and is very similar to dogs.

Generally vegetarians can have pets. But true vegans won't have pets. It's against vegan rules to own an animal, to keep an animal in a cage or on a leash, or shut him up in a cage or ride a horse, etc. True vegans don't interact with animals at all because they benefit from that interaction and that's not allowed.

I dont see why anything would be wrong with it. As long as they are very well taken care of, and can't possible be a threat to anyone in the community, i think its a nice idea. I hear pigs can be wonderful pets. They're adorable too.
