I'm vegetarian but I'm too embarrassed to tell my friends?!
Answers:
If you're too embarrassed to be vegetarian, then just eat meat I guess like everyone else.
You should not be embarrassed at all for going vegetarian, you should feel good about yourself knowing what you're doing and why you're doing it. We need more people who are vegan and vegetarian in this world. Don't feel weak going vegetarian, people shouldn't feel weak for going vegetarian I know I didn't, and I wasn't ashamed or embarrassed to tell my friends. And when they asked why I told them and they left it at that. If they're really your friends they will accept you for your choices. Just ask the waiter if they have anything vegetarian. and remember fish is meat too.
Vegetarian
Are you really that insecure?! You say they are your FRIENDS, if they really are your friends then they will not bash you for being vegetarian! My meat-eating friends make fun of me a little bit but its all in good measure, they aren't trying to be mean at all.
You need to make sure you are getting enough protein, and all that other good stuff in your diet. You can't just eat whatever you feel like eating or want to eat...it has to be balanced, that's probably why you feel weak.
Changing your diet, in and of itself, shouldn't be a source of embarrassment. You either need better friends, or guts, or both.
If you intend to lecture or insult your non-vegetarian friends, or tell them the usual vegetarian lies, then that is a different story- yes you should be embarrassed, if that is the case.
Don't be embarrassed. Embrace your vegetarianism! Being a vegetarian is something a lot of people would like to do, but many feel it is too difficult. I'm sure at least some of your friends will be happy for you and think what your doing is cool. If they don't, sucks for them.
If you're feeling weak, you're doing it wrong.
You should feel weak if you are getting enough protein, iron, and vitamin b12 that you used to get from meat.
It's really simple to get all of these things, but not if you're hiding.
Do I smell a troll?
Listen you dont need to be embarrassed just when they say do you want my chicken SAY No because your against it when they kill animal
NIce try , troll.
If Matthew were real, I'd tell him to grow a pair and get better friends, or beat his friends asses for being asses
u have to be eating more fruit
I think the more important issue is that you're feeling weak. I'm guessing that you cut out meat without adding in something else, or you're surviving on salads. Beans are really cheap and really easy to make. I'm putting a veggie cookbook and another book in the source box for you to look at.
If you go to Burger King, they have a veggie burger to order. If you go out to a restaurant, you should be able to find a meatless dish. If there's absolutely nothing, you can always order a salad and a baked potato.
When your friends ask about it, just tell them you're experimenting with vegetarianism (if you want to keep it short). If they're receptive to the idea then tell them about it. If they're true friends, they won't scoff at you. :)
Good luck!

Vegan
Being a veggie isn't bad? It's not against nature really, it's a personal choice. Just go out with them, order a meal that has no meat in it and if anyone asks, just say it straight out that you're a veggie. If they ask why [guessing from your name you're a guy] saying that it's cause the animals are cute and fluffy probably won't go down well :L just tell them you want to be, it's your choice and you think it's cruel to murder animals for food or whatever. Or you could say you're going against global warming and not eating cows [methane from their rear ends ;) are making it worse because it's one of the bad gases and because people are breeding way too many for food there's loads more = badness] and then say it's easier to be completely vegetarian than to just say "no cow's meat" and you're happy with it (:
Good luck (:
P.S. It's a good choice, I want to go vegetarian but I'm just a sucker for meat :L sounds bad right?
P.P.S. If you're feeling physically weak make sure you're getting enough protein [Nuts and seeds etc.] <--my mum used to be vegan (:
EDIT -just adding on the end, they should be the embarrassed ones if anyone should be because they're probably not strong enough to make the the switch -like me
i dont think you should be embarrassed. im a vegan and a celiac ((gluten allergy)) so i know how ruthless people can be about making fun of a not-so-normal diet. but honestly, its something which makes you different, and you should hold your head up high for your convictions. if your friends make fun of you, its because they don't understand why you are vegetarian.
as for feeling weak, how have you been eating since you made the switch? are you a junk-food vegetarian? because that's what I did for the first year i switched, and i felt weak and gained weight like crazy. make sure you're eating at least decently, because you don't want the swtich to make you sick. theres lots of websites, like mercy for animals, which explain in better detail how to eat vegetarian without sacraficing your health.
good luck :)
me
I do not announce that I am vegetarian. I order my food and eat it. Most people I have eaten with are not aware that I am. I have eaten in large groups many times and not one person has asked why I didn't get meat. The options I choose are often healthy and I guess people just assume that is why I chose it.
I am not hiding it, I just don't announce it, proclaim it or make a big production about the fact the meal I am choosing does not contain meat. If someone asked, I would tell them.
But I agree with others, you need knew friend or to learn to stand up for yourself if you are worried about what your friends would say.
And if you are feeling weak, you need to reassess your diet. You are not eating properly or the diet is not right for you.
ur kidding right
who the hell says HUMANS are supposed to eat meat
and let me guess HUMANS are supposed to slaughter them for our satisfaction
no i didnt think so
if ur friends dont ask dont say
if they do then just say "what im vegetarian" if they make fun of u or tease u just say "well hey if you guy invited me to just make fun of me than im out"
dont be embarrassed...
iv been a vegetarian for 8 months now and like about 5 (at maximum) of my friends know im vegetarian and im 14 in high school and know alot of people so like i said if they dont ask dont say
at least u'll be living longer then them so peace im out =P
You should not be embarrassed. If someone asks why you're not ordering a cheeseburger, just tell them you're a vegetarian. It's unusual, yes, but, truth is, most people don't really care what you eat.
BUT, you should know that your diet does kill cute, furry critters. You're part of nature, just like the lion that kills a zebra baby to feed her babies. Millions of animals are killed in the fields every season to plow, cultivate, and harvest the vegetables that veg*ns live on. And more birds and rodents are poisoned to keep them out of storage bins. Veg*ns will try to justify that by saying "most grains are for feeding cattle" and "it's an accident", but whatever their excuse, their diet still results in the death of small, furry animals: field mice, rabbits, moles, etc.
More at the link:
"Animals of the field are killed by several factors, including:
1. Tractors and farm implements run over them.
2. Plows and cultivators destroy underground burrows and kill animals.
3. Removal of the crops (harvest) removes ground cover allowing animals on the surface to be killed by predators.
4. Application of pesticides.
So, every time the tractor goes through the field to plow, disc, cultivate, apply fertilizer and/or pesticide, harvest, etc., animals are killed. And, intensive agriculture such as corn and soybeans (products central to a vegan diet) kills far more animals of the field than would extensive agriculture like forage production, particularly if the forage was harvested by ruminant animals instead of machines. So perhaps fewer animals would be killed."

Don't make yourself sick when the truth is being veg*n doesn't "save" any animals, doesn't make you healthier, smarter or a better person. It's food. Eat what your body needs. You only get one body per life. If you don't take care of it now, it won't take care of you in your old age.
